Getting games, Renpy to launch in Windows 11

Hey everyone,

Windows 11 pushed through an update on my laptop, version 22H2, & ever since it's done this I can't launch any of my Renpy games and even games I've purchased through Steam like Civilization.

The Steam games - just nothing. I go to launch & the computer does nothing. No error screen or anything.

Renpy - since I'm in Window s 11 I've always had to run through via troubleshooting and then testing that the new config works. Here's how I had to run them:

1. Right click on the game
2. Select "trouble shoot compatibility"
3. click on "try recommended settings"
4. click on the "test the program" button - this has always worked before and once this part was done, I could actually launch the games the normal way.

Now when I click on the "test the program button" I get nothing. It's like I didn't do anything. There's no sign of a launch, no cursor thinking, just nothing.

I've tried a few things, but I'm not the best with this. If anyone has any ideas as to what's going on, I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Quick update:

Steam games seem to be working now, but I've had to uninstall and reinstall all of them. The Renpy games, no luck as of yet.

You shouldn't be running games from compatibility mode, if they aren't working make sure you have all drivers udpated including video drivers.

If with all drivers updated they are still not working try moving them directly to C: and see if they work from there, renpy doesn't like folders with special characters.

Why this "always" ? There's thousands of people natively playing Ren'Py games on Windows 11 without problems.

It looks more like your system have some issues, that by luck you achieved to workaround when you should have tried to effectively fix it. Then, during the last update of Windows, the system followed its current configuration/state, what aggravated the problem, making it more global to the point that it also impacted other software.

And also redistributable, like C libraries.

Since the latest version of Renpy came out and using Windows 11 22H2 x64, it is hit or miss if a game off this site will work.

By work - I mean I have latest drivers on everything, but double-clicking the exe and nothing happens. Some will work when compatibility is set to Windows 8 and others will not.

I get this should not be the case. But the newest version only gives 1 exe. The prior versions gave a 32-bit and 64-bit exe to use.
