Just an FYI for anyone who wants to contribute. Gen 8 has more available assets in general, they also have an abundance of Gilf ready characters and morphs. In comparison to Gen 9's selection. For Gen 8 ... Mabel , Edie Grandmother , Olivya May , Mrs Chow , Mamma T , Frida and many more. While Gen 9 you need stuff from artist like E3d , Feng and a few randos.

Those mentioned Gen 8 characters are good as gold , no age modifiers are required as they already have the skin details , wrinkles , body type ... etc ... aesthetics to appear older. Which works better than morphing a model who looks 20 - 30 ish into 45 - 50ish.

G8 exist very long time, moreover G3 morphs were easy to convert, what makes this time even longer.
There are morphs which let you make many unique characters adding them to existing figures.
Below you have base G8F
G8F_base.jpg
Based on you can obtain mature effect which can be addded to any character. I have set of my fav morph collected/isolated/created from old characters and head morphs. Cheek sink, marionette lines, eyebags, outer eye angle, jaw sag, laugh lines etc. Base G8 with my preset below

It can be add to any character, not only 20-30 but even very young like London (3dUniverse) or toon like Girl7

G9 have even more like "age machine" and "aging morphs". Assets are ok, but G9 does not like mixing characters. Some G9 morphs looks good only with 100% strenght and mixing it with other create weird results, especially eyes can be too big, too small or have veird rotation. Moreover it has no efficient bend support.

I do know that G8 will render decent skin, unlike the waxy plastic you've come up with, it looks like their mouths are glued shut, plus all the eyes look like old Action Man painted eyes. I'll stick with G9 for now...

P.S. there are at least two recent bend fixes for G9, possibly a couple more by now.

All shaders caan be applied on all surfaces G8, G9 or even cube prop. Above is material including maps and shaders prepared for toon characters, simple eyes, outline and glowing noses, moreover it keep style even

moreover it keep "style" for different textures

Dang I don't even know what a shader is -_- appreciate the enlightenment just another thing on the list of many things to learn in daz and general 3d. Since we have some daz ppl who know way more than me can anyone explain how is it the models vary in detail when loaded even with all the materials and good lighting vs the posted version for sale. For instance Ms chow 8 . I cannot get this level of wrinkles on her no matter what . Does this have something to do with these shaders?

It depends on how you load the figure into the scene, start by loading X character, then look for 'X' in the character section of G3/8/9, load the add-ons, then go to parameters tab, & under 'actor' you can tweak the figure with assorted morphs....Then things get more difficult, your base render settings, lighting, enviroment, will all affect the final look.
I'd suggest looking at WPGuru's youtube video's, for basic thru to pro tips....

here is default Chow using 8.1 model, with the default lighting. nothing has been dialed or added except for the chow skin shader and her morph straight from the Sale version (+some hair or she'll be bald). render is 3 mins, 500 iterations. how you are not getting wrinkles and detail is beyond me! a shader is basically the texture you apply to a model, object, ground etc. in this case, the shader is her skin, fingernails, etc. and the light will now react with this shader to make it look the way it is. The most important habit is being able to go into IRAY PREVIEW to review the lighting and work before your final render. you need to be constantly checking Iray preview. if your graphics card can not handle real time iray preview, the learning curve will be tedious and time consuming.

the skin was simply applied to a base 8.1 model from the content section. the lighting is literally the default lighting when you first open daz and load your model. quick tip. you also need to turn off the HEADLAMP everytime you create a camera which you will find under the camera parameters tab. also in RENDER SETTINGS TAB, under general, change the AUTO HEADLAMP to NEVER from there. a HEADLAMP is a light that is projected from your camera or view like a mounted flashlight. it is separate from any lights you add to the scene. it is like a flashlight mounted to the front of the camera or perspective view. it is on by default so you have to make it habit to turn it off. a headlamp, especially up close to your model, will usually drown out all other lights and hdri maps you have in the scene and blow out your texture if you don't adjust its emitter strength. it has it's uses but is generally never used compared to your other lighting setups. seems like you have the headlamp on here in your render. if you have more questions, lets take this to DM. This thread is for art.
