This game was made for those few oddball guro fans. Since I'm not one, I'm only basing my review off the gameplay.
It's pretty good, took me about 3 hours to beat. Maybe just a hair on the easy side to me, but I can see some people having trouble.
Controls are responsive, although if you're using the keyboard controls I'd highly recommend changing the keybindings because the default control scheme is awful.
So the game basically has you do 3 runs at minimum through the game, each of a different path but with some levels shared. By the third time I got to the White Palacel level I was just trying to run past everything because I couldn't be bothered, so those shared levels can be pretty boring.
There are several weapons to choose from, but if you're doing a minimum of three runs to complete the game then you'll likely only use and max one of them (maybe two) if you're maxing out your health, trap damage, and elixirs. I used the shovel from start to end without need to switch things up.
The story and ending are nothing spectacular. I'm afraid that not a lot went into that aspect.
The porn is... Meh. Well first of all, I'm not into guro, but the art just isn't there outside the gore aspect. Very plain characters that have that same face syndrome. There are a few bits of vanilla content but the art doesn't do it much favors. Most of the time you will just see guro whether in CGs, when you kill enemies, and even in the background. It's pretty non-stop. However, once you see one person in the background blended, deep fried, put in a grinder, or boiled alive it all starts to lose its shock factor.
We need more games like theese, maybe with even more pure sexual content.
Really great game for who is into gore stuff, maybe the best ive played so far.
Awesome musics, nice gameplay, perfect game over scenes, but I would like to see more sex scenes
One of the best H-game Ive played so far, very nice art, control also responsive, nice gameplay, simple to learn, easy to play, but at times, can still be quite a challenge.
No grinding, no bullshit dialogues, all actions and fun, gore and tits.
Allright, I'll get this out of the way right off the bat - this game has some amazingly fucked up content. And I like really gory graphic fucked up content every once in a while, so that's why I like games like this.
But if you *don't* like that sort of thing, then you really should pass this one up.
I'm serious. We're not just talking about a little blood here. Pretty anime girls getting eviscerated and dismembered, that's just scratching the surface. There's graphic depictions of torture, including about two dozen unique game over scenes. The people who created this went out of their way to come up with fucked up stuff, and holy fuck, did they succeed.
(there is actually a way to turn off the gore: go to system.ini in the 'save' folder, and set 009gore to 0. Or remove the 009gore value alltogether. But honestly, why would you even want to do that? The plot doesn't even make sense without all the gore)
Now then...
Everything else aside, this game is an oldschool Castlevania-like platformer. And a pretty solid one at that. Not a full Metroidvania, but it's close. Think the SNES or Sega Genesis Castlevania titles.
This game is made by Blue Mad Diode, a group that has quite a reputation when it comes to guro games. Especially the DepraviA series, which are also guro platformers much like this game. If you like DepraviA or DepraviA Egrigori, you're going to love this game. (and conversely, if you like this game, you should check out the DepraviA games as well)
In fact, the DepraviA games are so similar that this one might as well be a sequel. There's definitely a lot of shoutouts, as well as several similar enemies (like the frog and fly enemies) and locations (the Arboretum borrows a lot from DepraviA's Gluttony level; both DepraviA games have a level that's almost identical to that gruesome Abbatoir level; etcetera). I also kinda suspect that it may be set in the same setting.
Like I said: this game is oldschool Castlevania-like. Pre-Metroidvania Castlevania. You have a choice between six regular weapons (3 close combat ones, 3 ranged ones), as well as a wide range of secondary weapons. You can upgrade your stats by buying upgrades from the alchemist, and you can boost both your HP and weapon damage this way. There are also collectable special abilities like slide and double jump - stuff that will allow you to take different routes and unlock new levels.
Only downside is, you can't freely backtrack to previous levels, and there's no overworld map either. You can replay levels, but only if you get to the Heaven's Gate level and opt for going back to the first level. You'll keep your weapons and upgrades, but the game's difficulty will be bumped up a notch.
You'll need to do at least two reruns this way in order to unlock the true final level. The whole thing is quite challenging, because the harder difficulties are no joke. It's a good kind of challenging, as enemies will get new moves and you'll have to figure out new strategies for some of them. But everything will also be a lot tougher and hit a lot harder. To give you an example: trap damage on Normal is about 30 HP. On Hard, it's about 200 HP. Note that you start out with only 100 HP, and that it can't get higher than 800 even with maxed out upgrades.
But the difficulty thing is easy to cheat, though: the savegames are stored as regular .ini files, and you can freely edit them. Just go to globalsave01.ini, find 026_CELL and set it to 1. Then load the game, and the difficulty will be set to Normal.
The game also features several minigames. These are especially hilarious, because most of them involve torture and/or dismemberment. With the first two of them, you actually have to torture information out of a defeated boss. Definitely not for the squeamish.
Another one is a shoot-'em-up minigame that takes place inside a princess' vagina. The whole thing is even more bizarre than it seems, but I won't spoil the details.
Overall, both the regular gameplay and the minigames are engaging and varied. It's definitely a solid game in that regard.
Sound-wise, the game is pretty good too. All characters have voice acting, and the quality of the voice acting is quite good. The sound effects are everything what I'd expect from an overly gory Castlevania-like game, and the background music is solid as well. Not every level has its own BGM, but the tunes that we do get are solid. Nice, atmospheric stuff (the White Palace and Glorious Throne ones are my favourites).
As for the story...
Story-wise, this game is decent, but... well, it doesn't really have that much substance. You'll see the abducted princesses in the intro scenes, but they never come up until you actually encounter them. That's not to say that they won't have an impact (especially the last one...) but the presentation is minimalistic. The whole thing would have hit a lot harder in a more story-driven game. OTOH, there's very much a limit to what you can do in a platformer game.
The game does have a few decent plot twists. however. And the alchemist says some interesting things. But that's pretty much it, though.
Almost all of the story is told in brief bits of dialogue that are so short that even machine translation couldn't fuck them up. Speaking of which; the translation of this one is shoddy but passable. There's bits of obnoxious stuff like occasionally male pronouns for very obviously female characters, but that's the worst of it. Some Engrish level names, but no impenetrable MTL poetry here.
And as for the H-content...
There's not actually a whole lot of sex going on in this game. Plenty of nudity, even if it's usually on bodies that are... no longer really in one piece. But actual sex? You'll have to make do with game over rape scenes for the most part. There's one level that has background NPCs fucking eachother, but that's the sewer level. At least it involves (implied) futanari. There's one actual sexscene towards the end, but it doesn't involve the protagonist. Nevea herself doesn't get any action as long as she doesn't lose.
Other than that, you'll have to make do with nude bathing scenes (the only time in normal gameplay when Nevea actually shows up fully naked), and an ending CG (also featuring Nevea and the twins bathing nude).
So, overall:
I'd give this one a 5/5. The writing and design are good. Gameplay-wise it's solid. And I'm impressed with the quality of the gore and the other fucked up stuff in this one.
I went in with high expectations because I'm already a fan of the DepraviA series, and Graveyard Executioner did not disappoint. Blue Mad Diode delivered.
2/3/2022
Well I'm going to be generous about it and give it 5 stars for the Guro game aspect of it. I actually tried to play for the plot of the game but there wasn't much of a story than I had originally thought. There aren't many games like these at all. Simple coherent narrative (despite the violence and guro) that made me want to play more-- it wouldn't be much of a spoiler when you reach the Alter of Eternity.
Kind of ironic when the bad person of the game want to create a "utopia" and clean the Black Kingdom because of their history of bloody torture and execution yet she's the cause of all the violence, rape, sex, necrophilia etc. This is practically her idea of cleansing and immortality, as far as characters go there really isn't much to talk about.
The level design and what Neveah Ward (MC) knows about certain places she needs to travel to save the princesses and destroy the perpetrator were interesting, but short. I do kind of wish there were more character interactions with the twins and MC, while killing npcs. I don't know but I was intrigued about the places for some reason. There's a lot more I would talk about but overall its a decent guro game that can be beaten in less than a day. Took me 6 hours because I was reading the game and overanalyzing the plot. Note this is my 1st guro game and it easily became my favorite one.
2/5/2022 EDIT:
I don't have a thing for Guro but I'm rather a fan of horror in general. All the violence and rape imo set the game's tone very well with the MC's revenge story. If it was a story instead it has high potential to be a rememberable disturbing one. It was the violence in the game that kept me playing and a kind of good plot twist in some of the levels Neveah Ward has to clear through like the Fengraf of Leechridden and Abbatoir of Bloodfire
There were Black and White Kingdoms and they were at peace, but at some point, due to barbaric history of Black's Kingdom, the White one decided to wipe it out. The result was sad, Black Kingdom is destroyed, princesses are stolen and everyone else are dead, beside the grave keeper. You must take control of her to take princesses back and get revenge.
Gameplay
Pretty much simple. Take one weapon and route, kill enemies, upgrade weapons and stats, kill boss, take unique ability and loop to choose different route to get another unique ability to continue.
Battle system is simple, mash one button to kill, one to dodge and another one to parry. Blocks are useless at some point and kills you faster then not using it.
Graphics and sounds
Absurdly gory, especially death scenes, that are unique to the type of death your character encountered.
Problems and bugs
1) Battle animations and controls might give a clunky impression, but you can reset attacks by parry.
2) At some point pits are your enemy №1, eating half of your health. That's strange, comparing that to any other source of damage.
Subjectively Story
Unfortunately, story isn't progressing through the game and there is not much plot.
OVERALL
Simple game with simple story and plot, but extremely gory graphics, that is, unfortunately, one of the main reasons to play this game. Easily will kill 4 hours of your life and sensitivity to violence, gore and cruelty...
As a guy who plays video games i will give this gaem 5/5 stars becos i enjoyd every second of playng.
at fits i thout it will be walk to the right game but alast i was suprisid when i found my self waiting to see whats in the next updatet and the ending boss was unexpected.
every think in this game was dark and twisted and the controls were just perfect . the characters well writen and the atmosfere amezing , the onli hickup is the bak story of the bad guys that went like ''we are the spanish inqisition to and now we matryx.
anyway 10/10 definitely would fap again.
8 hours of super fun game and love for the splatter!
The game start really easy and allow to have and increase of difficults according to the story line.
Really really well done and basically with no bugs.
the design is really nice. If you love Night of Revenge, this is what you are looking for!
[v.0.80] One of the best Guro games I have ever played. Will need to be ran through at least 3 times to complete, but its not so much a problem because the gameplay is fun and surprisingly smooth for an H game. Animations are amazing. I do recommend waiting until a full release, or at least until the ability to check animations is implemented however, so you dont have to constantly get yourself killed to see the amazing art.
Pretty good H and tight platformer. Good variety of melee, gun weaponry and special attacks that gives good replayability; that's a good thing too since the game is intended for you to replay through the different branching paths to reach the final ending. I of course went with the high risk reward shotgun that unfortunately stops one shotting enemies at the hardest difficulty level.
Game is not finished yet; unfortunately this includes the animation gallery, but its already nicer than most H platformers out there. My only real complaint is that its one of those 'health must reach 0 to see the scenes' games.
Obvious elephant in the room is the guro. Obviously the faint of heart should stay away but Blue Mad Diode always executes their sexual horror well. I highly doubt many people out there, me included, actually wacks it to this stuff but the grindhouse aesthetic here is excellent.
The gameplay felt pretty solid. I completed my first playthrough with the bonecrusher and it felt as if you are playing as Guts. The control feels snappy and responsive, and you feel the weight behind your movement and swings. The torture traps are a nice feature as well, to deal with enemies in awkward spot.
The difficulty ramps up as you complete a run, mostly in the form of stronger enemy attack and variation to what they do. You have to finish multiple runs using different combination of routes to get the full story. I think it's a nice way to add replayability.
The smut is obviously YMMV. However, even if you omit it, the game can stand on its own as a little gory action side-scrolling. Torture parts might be optional, as someone stated, so you can skip the heaviest of the gore if you want to.
Overall, I had a lot of fun with the game and would recommend it if you are into the fetish and/or want to kill some time with a gory action side-scroller.
+ H scene: 5/5
It is like heaven for guro lover. The scene is more creative and brutal and longer than their past titles.
Hot and likable characters, as usual.
+ Gameplay: 3/5
The game is really simple, a little more complex than depravia, but at its core, the game is just depravia with guns and dogs/traps added, minus the wings thing. If you like, you can just dash and jump past most of the enemy. But, you miss the chance to blast girl to more than one pieces.
I would say AlienQuest is better.
+ Graphic: 4/5
Big titties elf, graphic violence
The game is not completed, however, I am quite satisfied with this demo.
Overall, I would say this is a going-to-be gem among guro game, since there are not many of them.
A fantastic pseudo-metroidvania platformer with the only demerit is the backtracking that you can't control, luckily your new moves makes speed running past stages easier.
As with all BMD side-scrollers, the levels are filled with all sorts of goodies, from beautifully colored backgrounds to disturbing props that shows what terrible fate awaits our heroine should she be defeated.
Level design is competent save for a few areas that were too punishing especially in a certain fast-food factory.
Enemy mobs typically only have 1 attack (with one exception having 2) all of them are well telegraphed and easy to dodge/counter. Early game you can kill them off one by one and in the late game you can easily outmaneuver and ignore them, though you can get yourself surrounded if not careful.
Combat has seen some major improvements since DepraviA, you can jump, double jump, dash, block, and deflect projectiles. Movement is fast and responsive allowing you to outmaneuver and flank your enemies.
You have 6 weapons to choose from, 3 melee and 3 ranged. A weak but fast crowbar, a slow but powerful buster sword, a balanced shovel, a weak but accurate pistol, a long-range but submachine gun with some spread, or a short-range shotgun. Unfortunately ranged weapons for some reason doesn't allow the use of shields, which becomes a problem when fighting a certain boss. So there's really only 3 viable weapons.
The trap mechanic is fantastic, allowing the players more avenues in fighting enemies not to mention it's satisfying to turn your enemies in to weapons fueled by their suffering. Unfortunately it has some flaws, namely that some traps has the same function, not to mention one trap is so good that it rendered every other trap obsolete.
The bosses are implemented rather well, they have clear and well telegraphed attacks that can easily be dodged/deflected if the player pays attention. Though flying bosses are harder to manage (one in particular near the end) but it's not impossible to defeat.
Although this game sacrifice a more dynamic defeat animation of previous titles such as DepraviA, it more than make up for it with enemies getting the treatment. Watch as your enemies get beheaded, bisected, burned, petrified, gibbed or turned in to a fine red mist. You may no longer be able to enjoy the heroine's defeats, but you sure can enjoy the enemy's deaths.
Though it's not as if the heroine's defeats wont produce any special scenes or CGs, the game has that in spades (when it's finished). But we can no longer see the heroine getting gangbanged based on what enemies you fail to defeat, instead she (and her companions) are teleported away in some room to have terrible things happen to them. Which isn't bad, but it's just not as fun.
Overall this is a fantastic game that easily trumps any of it's predecessors, and gives more mainstream platformers a run for their money. Blue Mad Diode definitely out did themselves with this title. I highly recommend it to anyone whos in to platformers, especially those who are a fan guro platformers such as DepraviA and the splatter series.
Its not a bad game, the combat seems simple but pretty well done, with that said, the game get too repetitive after you beat the 2 boss or so because its always the same, go from point A to point B. It has some changes in the last part but still pretty same "jump there and there and kill this dude if you want". Maybe making the game shorter (without deleting content) would make it more enjoyable because there are somekind of ng+ but i think about the time it took me to go from point A to point B and i dont really feels like i want to spend that much time just for a few new scenes and i must clear that the time is from moving, the game is not that hard.
In general, the game works if you want a game with "action and violence", it could be better but this game looks like the others games i played from the dev, simple but good, no the best, no the worst.
