What it practically should be is "is this a GOOD 5 minutes right now?"
If so, sure. I think it's too early to rate, but it's fine if you think this is a 5 minutes that is 4 stars. A "yeah, download this and give it a go, it'll be short but worth trying and seeing what's building here"
Rating it for what it literally isn't, because it's about what it will be later, just baffles me.
"for the very very very early alpha peak" it's definitely not higher than 3 stars. It's a super basic premise that leans into the "pick which character you want" style. A variety game. There are a lot of those. These premises aren't new or surprising. How well is this starting? We have one guy, he's kind of cute, but his personality is mildly incoherent with just "slut" as the central trait and no depth. This is a worse start than maybe all of the other variety VNs like it.
It might be great. But shouldn't a rating grow over time? Isn't starting at 4 a bit much?

I didn't rate it. This feyster fellow JUST started, it'd be unfair to rate, because it's just a 1-star experience. But it could be a 4-star one day. It probably won't, but I won't pre-judge. You start at 4 stars because it might reach that eventually. That's insane to me.You do you. I say it again, you do you. I accept you do it. But it will still be baffling. Rate it 4 stars when it IS 4 stars. If this is a really solid, enjoyable 5 minutes for you, then I support you doing that. I don't think it is, myself, but I won't pull down the rating since I want him to try and see where it goes. The first impression isn't selling it for me personally. But if you really think it's that good, then alright. I choose wait. You choose update-as-it-goes. Different perspectives.
To be honest, I partly agree with you. But at the same time, reviewing the game based on what it could become can help give it visibility and that matters a lot to me. It keeps me motivated. More players means more reviews, and that's kind of the core of how I see development. I mean, a game is made to please the players. If I don't get feedback, even negative, because the game is just seen as 'not good enough,' I won’t be able to improve it.

That said, I completely agree with you: I prefer thoughtful, constructive feedback over random five-star reviews with no explanation.

The game isn’t amazing yet but it’s also my first, and it’s only had about three weeks of part-time development so far. Yes, it’s a dating sim, a 'date whoever you want' type of game, but I’m planning to give each character real depth. I don’t want to just flood players with choices like 'pick your poison'. There is a fetish involved, sure but it’s not the main focus of the game.

`What it practically should be is "is this a GOOD 5 minutes right now?"` 100% Fair.
