I swear I can almost think of the name but my searching has turned up nothing. So this game was 2D based from what I remember, it had a wizard/sorcerer type main character who was supposed to be weak, but he had some trick for mind control. The game has a point and click style of gameplay, where you click on the name of where you want to go in the local town. I believe once a you check on a few places in town, the day ends. Anyways, you find a female warrior who can be recruited. Combat is turn based, kind of similar to earthbound in overall visual appearance and function.
In one of the towns they have a goblin problem, and someone's daughter is kidnapped and brought to the caves. The father hires you and you go down there. Once you combat the Shaman, he offers you information if you give them your female warrior. If you accept, you mind control her and make the trade. In the following town, there was something about creatures at night and that there was a curfew. I got stuck exactly at this spot and wanted to revisit it.
