I hope this is in the correct forum but I was wondering about effective ways to use images and gifs in works like HTML games or even just stories like on CHYOA.

I was also concerned about legality with using them. I'm probably not going to aiming to profit off of the images use but if I should be worried by DMCA or something.

Just use them. It's highly unlikely that your game will get big enough for a creator/model/production company to come after you, and even then, a lot of it is free promotion for them. As for effectively using gifs? Webp as far as I'm aware is the best option (you can edit gifs and convert them to webp via ezgif, if needed). As for sizes/frames and so forth, that purely up to you and the design of the game itself. Beyond that, you'll have to be more specific as to what exactly you're looking to do.

I'm not clear on what you mean by "effective". Are you asking for coding help or are you asking how to use images well?

For coding you just need to give the game the correct path to the file. <img src="Images/Scenes/Pic1.jpg">

As for how to best use images? It's hard to say without context. The best advice I can give is that once you have an idea for a scene, find the picture you want to use first then write the scene around the image rather than the other way around.

I'm no lawyer but I think the legality around the use of images in these games is "don't ask don't tell". My hope is that the models chosen for these games see it as essentially free advertising for them. I know I've discovered a bunch of pornstars through these games that I now follow on Instagram and stuff.

I imagine that if Brazzers or individual pornstars were going to come after these games they would have by now. So your probably good.

Right on. Thanks for the advice over the legality aspect.

Webp sound like an awesome suggestion, I'll look into that.

As for effective, I'm intending on writing a CHYOA story and later creating a HTML game. I've read CHYOA stories and I think even HTML games where the image path seemed to be broken and no longer available. I assumed the where-ever the image was being hosted was no longer hosting it. I dont know if I'm right in my assumption in that, but I was wondering what's the best course of action for getting your images to hold.

If the image is broken, it's almost always because the dev either uses an online link/host (which is something no dev should do, especially in HTML games that will be widely available and sometimes downloaded by users not always connected to the internet.) or uses the wrong file path. The one AmusingOddity posted is probably the best option for most.
