your version says "beta", the current version here not. Does the 1.99Beta work with the current version?

Yes, that is the correct version. The Beta is in reference to the whole remake is in beta state.

I have the game downloaded on steam and the latest version here is 1.99 and I won't launch the game at all.
And this jumps out at me:

Try just installing the base game from Steam, then verify that it will launch as the base game.
Then download the version 1.99 mod and extract the modwtasahibito.rpa file to the `game` directory in the folder where it installed.

You have to change to the Beta channel in Steam to get the Beta version 1.99 of the game. The mod is made for the Remake Beta of the game.
Note that Steam is at version 1.9999 (2 more nines) but I have not released the mod for that version as it still have some bugs that the developer is addressing before issuing an update.

That's the page with character bios as such right? That is part of the game and not the mod.
Ya thanks for clearing it up. I had a feeling that was the case.
