I mentioned starting this idea in the Daz Skill thread... so here it is. Primarily I wanted a place to show off more of my work that didn't involve pointing people to other places. Plus here I can offer up tutorials, talk about experiences with particular assets, and other thoughts that have come up in my creative journey.

My plan is to flesh out this initial post to act as an index for various things. So that way if people are trying to find specific things they can jump right to it instead of trying to hunt for it.

Character Intros
Kiara
Leah
Piper

Sets
Love To Perform (Kiara)
Shining Brightly (Leah)

An Audience of One (Ely)
Shiny Purple Leah (Leah... go figure)
Leah's New Hair Style (same)

Character Sketch 3-6-21 (???)
Character Sketch 3-7-21 (???)

Character Intro: Leah

Leah (28): Leah met Rayne when they were both pursuing art degrees in college. When Rayne started lining up DJ gigs she asked Leah to help manage various aspects since Leah was minoring in Arts Management. After Leah took that on the two of them just clicked and became good friends.

When Rayne started exploring expressing herself through modeling at first Leah wasn't sure about the idea. But after she saw how much Rayne thrived there Leah was on board. Rayne had suggested that Leah try it out while bouncing around some ideas with a photography classmate. Once she did Leah realized just how fun it could be.

After college they both continued to work together in both music and photography. Leah did end up being known for her photo work. But when she's asked about doing it full time she says "If I did that then Rayne would be completely lost without me." And Rayne pretty much agrees.

Character Intro: Kiara

Kiara (24): Went to the same college as Leah for a BA in Studio Art with a minor in Journalism. Kiara originally wanted to pursue a career in photojournalism but somehow ended up covering art gallery exhibitions for various media outlets. The pivot to that has been interesting for her since she does get to interview artists and see how they 'tick' creatively.

Outside of that Kiara has continued on with her photography. While most of that focuses on landscapes and architecture, she does enjoy being the subject of a photo. If an idea strikes her as interesting she'll run with it. "If there's anything I've learned about photography... it's the art of paying attention."

Piper (21): The only one to NOT go to college. But being a gigging musician since she was 17 she hasn't had the need to go that route. Piper started learning guitar when she was 10 and while she's not a "musical prodigy" people will say she knows what she's doing.

While her main band is more of a punk/hard rock outfit she has joined up with various jazz, pop, and cover bands when they needed someone. Even though she started out with a six string more often that not you'll see Piper playing bass. "There's just something I like about how bass helps drive the whole band."

Love To Perform

Love To Perform 3.jpg

I had been wanting to use this outfit for a while, but I didn't think it fit any of the characters I had up until this point. Now with the creation of Kiara I thought it would work well on her. Just had to do some thinking through what background/prop pieces to use. And I think the entire setup lends to the 'cute ideas' I said I wanted to explore with her.

A Couple Of Interesting Points

1. I was honestly surprised how fast these renders were cranked out. With the Intel i7-8700 and NVidia RTX 2060 I was hitting at least 80% progress within 30 minutes and typically 90%+ within 45. I thought with all the light sources and reflective surfaces it would take longer, especially since I render at 4096px on the long edge.

2. While the costume played nice for the most part I do wish it had a few more morphs/bones for the tails of the jacket. What's there is workable though having a few more controls could help make things look more natural. Especially given that this asset is not dForce capable.

Shining Brightly

This set came about in a rather random way. I was working on a completely different project when I ran into some interesting light flaring effects. Through a combination of environment intentsity, lighting resolution, and emmisive power I could get various flaring effects. Add on top of that using images and gradients to change the colors of the lights made for a really interesting effect.

I had yet to do a full nude set for Leah, and this setup I thought really lended well to her character.

Some Notes:

1: The light wall is from . The pack itself is pretty good fot kitbashing scenes. And trying out ideas with the light wall is cool. Though if you do that try to use images that have smooth color changes. Otherwise you might get a bulb that's two drastically different colors.

2: The stage is from . If you just need a simple stage it works well for that. The outfit is also of pretty good quality. Which surprised me since it's in the free section of Renderosity.

3: Leah is most likely going to get a hair change. While I like the look of the on Leah a combination of not well thought out design decisions and needing more control morphs is what's making me consider that. I have a couple of ideas for ones to try... just need to do some testing.

An Audience of One

Go figure that trying out random outfits on Ely (yep, that's her name now) would lead to a photo set idea. Somewhat anyway. I had a pole dance idea for another characters though the set up was different. That particular idea I didn't feel like it has cohesion throughout the set. But this one worked a lot better I think.

I also opted to change her hair to try it out. Her original hair has some siliar issues to Leah's original hair. Mostly in that it has curls that will get in the way and there's no real easy way to move them. I like the initial look of this one though some of the movement adjustments make things go a little odd with the hair length.

Go figure a new clothing asset would end up generating an idea. :D

The light cubes I had made a long time ago for an idea I originally wanted to explore with Rayne. For various reasons that didn't pan out. When the initial idea for this set came up I had thought about using the same light tubes that I used in the Shiny Rayne set. Mostly because I just recently re-rendered that set for 4096px. But with those and the colored lighting I thought it would be a bit too 'busy'. When I tried out the light cubes I knew it would work.

Wish I could come up with a better name for this set, though.

Leah's New Hair Style

Leah New Hair 1.jpg
Leah New Hair 4.jpg

Finally got a new hair style for Leah, which is the
. Lots of control morphs compared to her previous hair. So that will come in handy. It is a darker shade than before mostly since there wasn't a texture that quite matched. Something might get me to try to adjust it closer to the original in the future. But for now would like to see how this shade plays out.

Opera Kiara

Opera Kiara 1.jpg Opera Kiara 3.jpg Opera Kiara 4.jpg Opera Kiara 5.jpg Opera Kiara 6.jpg

When I ran into the and saw that it came in a light blue color I knew I had to try it on Kiara. And holy fuck it worked amazingly well. It was one of the easier dForce capable outfits I've worked with. Was kinda hoping to get some cool 'cape flip' action but given the way it attaches to the model I'd probably need to experiment more to get that to work. Especially with figuring out how the control bones play into that.

The background is from . There's some neat ideas in that set with regards to providing interesting backgrounds. Don't think I'd use them as the only light source in a scene. But they can certainly add something depending on the setup.

So... I finally put together a set than the pin-up work I normally share here.

Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview01.jpg

Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview02.jpg Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview06.jpg Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview05.jpg Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview10.jpg Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview09.jpg Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview03.jpg Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview07.jpg Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview04.jpg Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview11.jpg Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview08.jpg Elys Sexy Photo Shoot Preview12.jpg

Doing work like this has always been part of the plan for me. The biggest obstacle was trying to think through presentations I'd be happy with. To be candid there's a good number of things about porn in general I'm not a fan of. Maybe at some point I'll write about them. So trying to present images in a way I'd enjoy it as an outsider was a big thing. Also trying to figure out a narrative that fits into that does take quite a bit of planning and work.

The original idea for presenting Ely this way was actually supposed to be a part of An Audience of One. Slightly to play into the "No sex in the Champagne Room" joke. While the environment for that does conveiniently have a bed available (it's behind the curtain) the space there was way to small to be workable for cameras or lighting. I could possibly used the rest of the space somehow but I wasn't feeling it.

When the outfit you see here came out I thought it had some potential. I originally tried it on a few different characters but I didn't feel like it fit their personalities. Once I tried it on this version of Ely I was like "Oh wait, this might be workable." I just needed to figure out an idea around it. I went back to my pin-up roots and started from there. As I was working on the first images I thought "Hmmm, maybe there is where I can bring in some of the ideas from Audience of One." And I think it did pair well.

Some Technical Notes:

1: The Flower Night outfit certainly has a cute design. But really need more movement capabilities. For one the skirt has some movement morphs but they very simple. And since it has two layers it was easy to run into surface poke through problems. Some parts had no movement controls at all. Normally the outfit has armbands but there was no way to fix any possible clipping issues. So I removed them. There's also a ribbon that normally hangs off the top. But since there were no movement bones it would just float off of the surface. Thankfully I was able to use Cutout Opacity to get rid of the thing entirely. I've run into similar issues with an outfit the same designer also offers. They really need to offer more control morphs, rigging, or dForce capabilities to their clothing assets.

2: I do wish the hair had better controls. It certainly was not designed to be used for any characters laying down. Probably not a big deal since the one image I was most concerned about is really early in the set. But still annoying all the same.

3: I wish the person behind the Director's Cut Poses realized that men and women are quite commonly not the same height. For some reason their poses were created with this in mind. While Ely is an elf she is on the short side. Some poses required tweaking while others just ended up being straight up unusable.

4: Jesus fuckin' Christ do the Cum Pro packs fucking suck. I went with those at first since they weren't as "annoyingly extra" like other similar assets. But God damn did the designer make some super dumb fuck choices. Like for Pack One all of the assets show up at some place somewhere above world origin. Two, they're all angled in a weird way so you have to fix that. Three, the placement join is with the asset itself but the control joint is at world origin. So you have to use the Joint Editor to line them both up to help with placement. Four, because of point number three the main "bone" starts at one end of the asset it's much more difficult for placing on a curved body. Five, the individual assets don't even show you what is what in the preview pics in Content Library. So you kinda have to guess.

I tried Packs Two and Three... but there's no rigging at all. Just dForce only. So if you're trying to apply these assets to a possibly somewhat vertical surface it just slides right off. And with no rigging means you can't shape it to any curves. A terrible set of assets all around.

I didn't mean for this section to be a bunch of complaining. But I wanted to illustrate the things I had to work through for putting this together. Hopefully it might help others.

Final Thoughts:

I'm glad I was finally able to put a set like this together. I want to do more work like this in the future. But presentation and how it makes sense to the characters is important to me. I have a lot of ideas in this vein I want to work on. It's just figuring out the best way to show them off.

When I saw the I was like "Oh, she has some possibilities." The product description made her out to be a hardass but I saw some opportunities for cute ideas as well. Oddly enough her face plays better with doing full on 100% expression morphs than most of my other characters. Something to keep in mind.

FWIW I did adjust her some to give a tiny bit more weight and some curve. I think the adjustments fit her though.

I rather . When I saw her I was like "Oh shit, she's got a super cute look to her." The only thing was her original design was more 'young teen'. Which I ain't about at all. So I increased her height and gave her a bit more body proportion to be more like she was halfway through college. Though there was one thing I didn't expect: the height adjustment made her neck hella long. When I did the first renders I was like "Why does this look so awkward to me?" Once I decreased her neck length by 50% it looked a lot more natural.

This set had actually been done for a while now. But after I finished it I was going back and forth on if I was 100% happy with the background elements I used here. I just decided to run with it as is.
