Hello!

I used to frequent the forum a few years ago, but not actively, and recently I realized I could introduce myself here. Anyway, I've always wanted to create content aimed at adult games, and I didn't have anything to show either...

However, I'm currently returning as a 2D/3D Unity developer and pixel artist.

I recently started a project on my own and believe I'm progressing well, but due to recent tagging issues, I've stepped back, deciding to focus on the code itself.

Well, since it's always been my desire to create something for the community, in addition to introducing myself, I'd like to share some screenshots of what I've been working on.

Currently, the project is called Shadows of Desire and will be a 2.5D game that blends pixel art and 3D environments. I did this to take advantage of some studies I've been doing in both styles. I'm a pretty bad scriptwriter, I confess, but I'm doing my best to make this interesting somehow...

If you'd like to follow along, I also created a page so I can share progress and perhaps document some things like decisions, outlines, stories, mechanics, etc. Right now, I want to keep posts for free members, but any support is welcome!

Everything seems to be going well. I'm focusing primarily on the gameplay right now... Then on to the managers, sprites, text, UI... It's a lot of work, but I'm enjoying it!

I made some targets to shoot with my invisible pistol! :LOL:

Thats awesome I figured it was gameplay first then look at everything else! This looks interesting I will keep my eye on it.

Hello again!

Wow, time has flown by and I haven't said anything about it.

Well, I'd like to say my project is still ongoing; I've already done a lot and have been experimenting with some ideas.

I was initially thinking of a Resident Evil-inspired game, but some ideas started to emerge, and so I added a bit of Metroidvania to it. Internally, I've been calling it Metroid-evil-resident-vania (if there's a proper name for it :LOL:).

Well, two of the things I've developed in the last few weeks are heavily inspired by Castlevania: SotN and RE3: Nemesis.

The first thing is a room map:

Although my character doesn't jump or climb platforms, it's still interesting to explore this style of map with doors instead of side exits.

RE also has a map, but the view is top-down; it seems to work better in 3D games with multiple angles. So I followed the SotN idea as inspiration and as an experiment.

The second thing is a heart rate monitor:

I don't know how it works in current RE games, but I loved checking my character's health! I'd open the inventory menu hoping I wasn't dying.

Introducing this was aesthetically appealing, but it felt redundant when it came to HP, since the game's HUD already provides that information. So maybe I'll use it for another purpose (corruption level, I don't know yet).

Anyway, I just came here to kind of update things. I also made a HUD sketch and a basic concept to try to reinforce the idea internally. My art skills aren't the greatest, but I think it gets the idea across. :)

Hello everyone!

Just stopping by to give you an update on what I've been up to.

Since I started developing the game as gameplay first, the adult content has been postponed. So, I've been creating some NSFW sketches and gradually posting them on Patreon (nothing exclusive to paying members).

Well, I've put together some clips of what I've been working on in the last 2-3 months, and here's a snippet of what's already working well:



I hope to be able to publish a build on itch.io soon so everyone can try it out.
I'm having trouble with the cutscene system right now, but it's almost fixed! :giggle:

It's looking good, was the adult content postponement related to the steam stuff or just having to prioritise?

It's a matter of priority, really. I'd like to put these scenes in some context, especially in cutscenes.

Oh, speaking of which (and it's still too early), I thought of a relationship mechanic that sounds interesting in theory. I want the player to be able to enjoy stories, scenes, have encounters, and enjoy this type of content more as part of the gameplay.

I think there's a lot of cool stuff here, but since I'm developing alone, I need to take it slow with these ideas and be careful not to overinflate this project.

Smart, scope creep has to be number 1 project killer. I find it's even harder to manage that when it's just me

Besides having to deal with a little bit of everything and other unforeseen issues that arise along the way. But everything is a learning experience, so I believe that's also part of the journey. :giggle:

About updates: I'm obsessed with a combat system, so I took some steps. :giggle:



I almost forgot, I had finished the GIF from the first post. I won't use it in the game, but it would be nice to get some feedback.

Oh, I'm so glad you liked it! (By the way, I really like your name! :giggle: )

Initially, I imagined it would be an investigation and puzzle game, inspired by classic Resident Evil games. But then, I started toying with the idea of turning it into something closer to a metroidvania, one of my favorite genres.

So, I decided to add a bit more movement and improve the code to make it easier to maintain, especially by adding new animations (I really want this part to shine).

I've already written a short script that I'm using as a guide for this first version, and as soon as possible, I'll make it available for everyone to test and share feedback. I'm looking forward to it!

As for what I hope to convey through the gameplay (although it may not be fully achieved in this first phase), I plan to explore the districts of a hostile city ruled by rival factions, face enemies with various animated finishers, deepen the stories with a strong narrative, and experiment with ways to gain advantages through interactions. :sneaky:
