Yeah... He really needs to stop throwing out dates he's not fully confident he can hit. If there's even the slightest reservation about a potential target it shouldn't be publicly announced. Missing those dates, especially when it happens regularly, enables the trolls of the forum who then enable the yes men of the forum to respond to those trolls creating a feedback loop (which surprisingly didn't play out that way this time). The point being that all of this could be easily averted by not announcing unreachable deadlines on a whim and solving whatever hurdle is leading to delays.
Im a web dev that's worked in IT since my teens so all i've known professionally is project-based work and im 300% in tune with the mental health cost, which potentially evolves into a physical health cost which I have seen happen with my own eyes, watching those deadlines fly by while the finger is pointing at you (or your department/team). Add a comfortable amount of buffer time to targets. Clients would rather receive something early than late, even if the perception of additional dev time was merely an illusion and was only stretched to CYA.
Im intimately aware of how posts like these are received on this forum so genuinely hoping at least a few people find my 2C constructive.
I've been developing software for over 4 decades. I understand your point, but at some level I disagree. None of us here pay his salary. He doesn't work for us. We are NOT his clients. We have nothing, seriously nothing, dependent on his making any date he gives us. He's completely transparent on his progress and anything that disrupts his schedule.
He's not "throwing out dates" which implies the date he give are not well considered based on his best information and estimates at that time.
I like the fact that he provides his best estimate and updates it as unforeseen factors or unexpected unknowns force those estimates to change. Your milage, obviously, may vary, but he's proven he's a serious committed developer and I value anything he cares to share.

This feels intellectually dishonest. I think you're fully aware of what I intended by that statement as my use of the word "clients" can effectively be swapped for customers, patrons, anyone providing funds in expectation of a product or service.
This is dishonest. Again, I want to preface this by saying it is not my intention to be demeaning, im not going out of my way to be spiteful nor troll but below is the opposite of transparency:
Allow me to explain. This message came through Sunday, the expected day of release. You ask for help or make the announcement when your feet are dangling above the fire, as you likely felt the heat long before then, not when they're already submerged in flames. This applies beyond visual novels and is what I mean when I say:
Unless the status of this has changed (im not a Patreon nor on the Discord so it may have, please save your groans and hear me out) and the Patreon was never updated, this is another announced target that was missed. My point isn't to antagonize but to highlight the fact that this creates a problem that need not have existed in the first place.
DarkBlue can produce good content, he can write a compelling narrative, and he actually does research on his subjects that minimizes the suspension of belief that leaves you un-immersed among a library of other games that explain away inconsistencies using unsatisfying porno video game logic. With these things in mind, knowing that he wants to continue in this space, I would rather provide my 2C where I feel it could be helpful rather than continue to him watch him stumble.
Being a yes man has never helped anyone and I want to reiterate that this isn't something that should just be handwaved because it comes with a real cost so if I feel I can provide at least something of value that's what I will do. If he's UK-based, it's 2:30AM right now and I guarantee you he's still up working, likely rushing himself to the finish. This is something you should be more familiar with than myself as although i've been in the industry awhile im still in my 20s; the missed deadlines, the crunching, the crash you experience forcing productivity when your body and mind is practically zombified can last for days and by your own words...
...I guarantee he's paying that price.
Again, all I sought to do with this is highlight that it's a price that never needed to be paid in the first place in the hopes that he doesn't do it to himself moving forward. It's exhausting, it's anxiety-inducing, it's a lot of things which is why I advocate he no longer does it both for himself and the community that claims to have his best interest in mind.
I am far too lazy to make another post like this, I need to make at least 10 shit posts to realign myself. Back to regular boop.

deadlines are toxic and bad for your health, stuff will be ready when it's ready. i no longer even specify the week something might be ready, usually i just say the month and if i'm feeling good i might work over the weekend or pull some late shifts to get stuff done faster.
hard deadlines though, force people to pull all nighters hopped up on caffeine and nicotine.
that's coming from someone who's a sysadmin and (very very terrible) developer. just my 2cents, the IT business would be a lot healthier without hard deadlines but i understand why they exist.

That is all I wanted to highlight which is why it's wild to me when people just refuse to acknowledge this to capitalize on an opportunity to virtue signal.

truth! i think it's mostly (from what i've seen at least) an age thing really. younger or newer people with something to prove don't mind pushing themselves. other people who've been around the block know how it is and it's just not worth it. also, burnout is something not to be taken lightly, it's a very slippery slope from burnout to depression & anxiety.
it's just not worth damaging yourself over something so miniscule because at the end of the day, who really cares if something is 3, 4 or 7 days late. it's not fun either getting something "on time" only for it to be below expectations.

maybe he learn some day that best way to go is its done when its done, do not give exact dates, all does is tick some people off and more importantly just adds more stress to dev when he doesnt meet it. So many dev have pushed them self to hard trying to meet deadlines that where ether unrealistic or things just come up

I'm sorry for promising and missing another release date.
I know people will be justifiably pissed off, and I can only apologize again.
Clearly something is very broken with how I'm currently managing things. I tried making changes after the last release when exactly the same thing happened, but they clearly didn't work. So I will have to try making more radical changes this time.
There's obviously no point in me giving you another release date, so I'll just say that I will get v0.10 completed as soon as possible and let you know when it is ready for download.
