I love this game and it is a shame that it is sidelined and it is not known if it will be resumed or end up abandoned like many others.

I don't know the reasons of its creator for leaving it aside because I haven't read many messages, since it is the first time that I am writing in the section of this game, but I am sure that he will have strong reasons not to continue it since the game is surprising quality.


It's not like many other games where the story sometimes doesn't make any sense.
In this game it does not get carried away by the typical thing that abounds, in the sense that the protagonist wants or can fuck all the characters.
Not in this one, in this one he prefers to give coherence to the story instead of getting carried away by all those, who the only thing they think about is that if the game doesn't have sex every 5 minutes it's no longer worth it.
I love the fatherly relationship with Emma without any perverted thoughts.
I love how the relationship with Charlotte develops. Very realistic development slowly and with improvements in confidence and then again with ups and downs, something very realistic for someone very traumatized. In other games, the MC would have fucked the super model on her second night of being home, and in some even on the first night, and on the second he would be having a threesome with the sister or daughters.

I hope that the reasons the creator had were not due to something serious personally, and that he can resume this fantastic work.

There's a fair bit about it, not far back. It was/is quite serious and HillsideVN put the onhold tag on himself. It's not being abandoned and he has been corresponding on patreon and here keeping everyone in the loop with what is going on.

It's not that difficult to find out what "the creator of this game" has recently posted here about his situation and the status of his work on this game.

In case you haven't done it yet, open your Preferences and tick "Most recent" under "Search options" and save (most recent posts are usually what you're looking for anyway), then open this thread and click inside the search box in the upper right corner. Don't write anything into the search box itself, leave "This thread" selected from the menu under the box and type "HillsideVN" into the "By:" box. Click "Search".

Agreed, in fact, I tend to like games that have a better story and fewer sex scenes than other games. I have played certain games I won't name, that have so many sex scenes it is absolutely ridiculous. They have no story, and even for fiction, they cross the line of believability. I get to the point where I am rolling my eyes and thinking "get real, this is ridiculous!". But give me a good story, like this, and I can't get enough of it. With sex where it makes more sense.

See, I don't mind a good story, but it definitely feels like the dev is scrambling how to approach continuing the story now that the real stalker is dead. And the path they chose (there's always a bigger fish) is kinda nutty IMHO. I mean, MC - the ex-military tough guy that's been in the private security industry since he got out of the military - is easily outran by Charlotte, a woman in her 40s that does Yoga (no gym/track has been mentioned AFAIK). So, if he is not physically gifted to pose a near-unbeatable physical threat to the villains, what can he actually do to help Charlotte against an international human trafficking organization that wants her gone?

Be real now, the MC is as impulsive as Suzi when it comes to Emma, let alone when it comes to life-or-death threats to her. He is gonna get smoked in any remotely-realistic version of these events...

I feel like this game has a lot of potential, but the dialogue is so incredibly stilted that it does not do it any favours. I don't mind the lack of sex scenes, but even the one we have with that blonde supermodel chick is poorly done (literally just a couple of renders).

It honestly comes across like the dev is trying to tell a cool story, but feels forced to make in an AVN to earn more money, yet completely ignores the main reason it should qualify as an Adult Visual Novel - the eroticism.

Not to mention the "sudden" shift in Emma viewing the MC in a sexual manner, when the MC has had next to zero erotic moments with her, nor does he have any romantic/sexual thoughts or feelings for her.

This bit had me confused. I've played as a protector to Emma, not romance and made all my choices accordingly. She has only ever seen my MC as a protector and then a father. Not sexually.

I'm sure it would if you were playing an Emma path (and I have no doubt DB would be doing it justice). But the guy I was replying to said that he didn't pursue Emma and then she started to develop sexual feelings for MC.

And it fails, because the characters are indeed too flat and uninspired. Not to mention, the VN keeps jumping ahead in time without telling the viewer - in one midday scene, MC or Charlotte are telling you about this event happening tomorrow, and the next render after the conversation is over is that same event, no fancy transition or anything. And that happens several times with events that are scheduled to happen some days after the convo itself. Gets annoying and slightly confusing.

Charlotte keeps flip-floping on her opinion about the MC, which is understandable at first, and just frustrating after he saved their asses for the 10th time. She doesn't have to be enthusiastic about a man living in her house that fast either, but the game clearly says he has now spent several months in their home, and Charlotte is still on the verge of slapping him to hell if he so much as looks at her in lingerie for few miliseconds too long. I am not expecting her to flash my guy anytime soon either, but she only started behaving somewhat normally in the last few scenes with him... better late than never but the damage is done.

Concerning the MC's physical prowess - don't get me wrong, I love that he isn't Mr. Olympia or Bruce Lee, but that only serves to strengthen my concerns over his involvement in the story going forward. How is an international crime syndicate still struggling against one ex-soldier? At this point, they would've sent a clean-up crew to take care of the Lloyds while they were sleeping or traveling by car to the beach. Feels like a dead-end that the dev has written himself into - either the bad guys are incompetent, or the MC is, I just don't see any other way out.

I love the potential of the story, but there is a lot of iffy things about the dialogue and supposed adultism of this game.

Problem with this is you are assuming AVN means it has to have porn or erotic scenes just because the site it's hosted on but it doesn't , it's just the most common theme on this site. I play multiple AVN's that have no lewd / nudity scenes or barley any at all and frankly I enjoy most of those more than ones that do it varies on game to game of course. Tho it does depend on what matters to you in a AVN as well. As some hold the opinion if it isn't going to have many lewd scenes or nudity it needs to have a better than average story . Not sure sounds like you might fall into that category. For me story doesn't matter all I care about is characters . Personally for me I think Charlotte is done in a way that comes across as believable for a AVN character probably not if it was real life however. It doesn't matter if there are parts I don't enjoy as I just like how well done Charlotte's character is done at least to me she is a good character , I have no issues with it. Lucy's character is pretty well written as well tho I still need to play her path but I like what I have seen of it. Not gonna argue your other points as I personally don't have any issues with what you do.

I dunno, it seems like you're actively looking for things not to like here. A lot of the stuff you mention is just opinion, and that's fine, everyone is allowed their opinion. Lots of us like the characterisation, whereas you call it "flat and uninspired". That sort of stuff will never be a winner for everyone, because like our opinions, we are all different.

Again, I won't try to argue a lost cause re "AVN equals Porn" because it's been done to death here and it's one of those sticking points where some people just won't allow their view to be questioned.

Otherwise, I think you're just looking too far into this. You're talking about realism regarding a plot that we haven't been served yet. At the moment, we're just scratching the surface of what's going on, so it's a bit difficult to be talking about "an international crime syndicate struggling against one ex-soldier" (also, ever seen an action movie?).

On the back of that parenthetical, the bit about timejumps doesn't really mean anything. Are you suggesting that any time a scene doesn't immediately follow the previous scene there should be some sort of warning? Again, have you ever seen a movie, or a TV show? You don't need "fancy transitions" to tell you we're going from a daytime scene to an evening scene. If you follow the story and pay attention to the scenes you're seeing, you can easily and quickly tell what is going on—and it's natural to skip what happens between scenes, so if there isn't anything we need to know between a conversation about an event and the event itself, why shouldn't we go from one straight to the other?

I haven't checked or played this for a while. I just finished the latest version and I have two questions. Since there are so many pages, I was hoping someone with the knowledge could answer me.
1. What's with the onhold status? Did the dev say why it is on hold/for how long?
2. I've been just playing the charlotte path for a while now because it's so long between the updates and I haven't sorted my saves properly. Are the other paths, in the last 2-3 updates anything interesting? Maybe something with Agent Fox or anyone else?

1. dev has rl issues (reason is posted if you are interested), if/when it's removed no1 knows.
