I have no idea what the seasonal day/night temperature differential on the island would be. But a major candidate for the sequencer variability would be temperature effects. It could be some component failure too, but machines in that class come with an extended test suite to be run before contacting the vendor. Reports like 'it doesn't work' are not acceptable in that world.
