House assets

2D guy got asked to show proof of purchase and when he didn't his Patreon got pulled. My theory is someone snitched. So yeah he probably did fuck up, still got caught out.
The question is, who has the right to ask you for proof of purchase at all? Assets creator? The user of DAZ studio is not in any contractual relationship with the creators of the assets if the assets are sold in the Daz store.

This means that the creator of the product would have to ask Daz 3D to contact Patreon, stating that the developer MAYBE uses a product without a license? That sounds pretty complicated.

Even if they recognize the house in renders how can they know it's pirated? The creator does not see the list of people who bought their content in the Daz Store.
I'm sure there's more to it than just seeing an asset has been used when it comes to suspicion. I highly doubt Daz creators are running around requesting proof of purchase every time they see their creation in someone else's work.
Frankly, I'm not concerned about the hows and whys people get caught, I've just witnessed that they can. Again, my point is let's not give a false sense of security to anyone who is here that might want to use pirated assets. There are a lot of would-be devs on this forum that are taking their first steps and I feel it's important that they make informed decisions regarding the content they use. The risk is low, don't be stupid and you will probably never ever get caught, but if people think they're totally safe then they might get relaxed and forget the "don't be stupid" part. That's all.

I believe you are totally safe, unless you as a developer mention in a forum that you have used pirated products in your game to create renders.
I understand that if a developer mentions in the thread of his game, "Hi guys, I used this house that I downloaded from 3DLOAD" then the developer can really have a problem.
But the question is, is there any risk for someone who is not so stupid? I highly doubt it, but maybe I'm wrong.

You'd be surprised by some of the dumb things people do when they think they're safe to do so. I'm a member in another forum that shares premium photo sets and videos and such and someone literally made a thread upset at how they got banned from a few places like Patreon and Onlyfans (payment details blocked etc) because they'd been sharing content there. The dumb bastard had been using the same username across all sites.

I am absolutely certain that DAZ provides legal services and has the right to take legal action on behalf of those who use their services to sell their designs. ABSOLUTELY. They lease the right to copy the artists' works.
In addition, the individual astist has the same right, being the IP holder.

Yep. I did porn (photos and videos) as a producer/videographer/photographer until a few years ago. Guy I did work with had this happen on a site. He was awarded something like $20,000 for ONE person releasing ONE photo set (and this is Denmark, where the legal compensation is maybe 1/100th of that you hear about in the US).

I don't know how willing DAZ 3D is to act if a creator contacts them with a suspicion that someone is maybe using pirated assets in renders, unless it's a reasonable suspicion.

But how can renders raise reasonable suspicion if the developer himself does not reveal that he is using pirated assets?
The creator does not see the list of customers who bought his product.

I'm more surprised that there's not much pressure on sites like 3DLOAD or F95zone, that offer thousands of pirated assets for download. Or maybe there's pressure, but these sites resist surprisingly well. DAZ probably doesn't have as much power as the film industry.

From a commercial view its actually better to leave these sites up as several studies showed that piracy often increase the overall amount of sales (excluding movies, and large corperations). The people that pirate stuff would or not buy the product anyway, or wanna try out the products first. The amount of customers piracy really steals is extremely minor compared to how much extra exposure it gives, especially for stuff like small developers/asset creators. People are more likely to support indie developers and asset creators then mega corperations that fuck over anyone they can.

This keeps coming up but it's completely moot. Customers likely don't use the same name throughout their online presence anyway. A creator or their representative will ask for proof of purchase if there is suspicion.
