How are we feeling about AI art?

I do have a BTEC in Art but drawing people is my weakest aspect. I would pay someone but I want to make this game as a passion project after going through a ton of generic slop.

I'm tired of colleges (some exceptions), I'm tired of harem MCs where they are the only man in the world capable of getting pussy, otherwise its an ugly bastard committing sex crimes.

I love diversity in what's happening and I like other characters to be as alive as the MC and that's why Pale Carnations and Our Red String are the best games on here imo. But here's the thing. I'm going to make my own game but I just can't think of what to do.

Should I create AI art and bring it to photoshop? Pencil sketch? Outright use AI art? What's the move guys? Any other tips too?
I would say since you already have a good idea about art (because of your degree) I would say use AI art to better understand the human form (ik it ain't perfect but that's when using it with real people refernce will help too). I feel like AI art has a shiny look to it. I personally don't care for it but I think it can get the job done. Maybe use the AI as placeholder or refine it too. Since you're taking this on solo go for the AI help.

I think AI art is an abombination but it's hot enough for most undiscerning people.

I don’t want artists to starve and I want that human touch in my games, so I will continue hiring real artists until the end of time / Skynet takes over.

This is the funniest (in a good way) game banner I have seen here in f95zone, and probably also one of the "best": It gets noticed, watched, remembered, invokes sympathy towards game. Clearly being AI SC-based, it shows the creative process of game dev/writer (maybe, could be), and - not sure if originally intended - is a cool comment on AI SC-art being bad or not.
from this game topic : https://f95zone.to/threads/demon-gods-v0-55-panonon.151073/

I am too busy with other games still, but the communication in that topic from/with the dev, the glimpse into someone working with AI SC-art for base, and the work it takes to work it over, and as said this banner had me put it up high on my to-play list.

You know how some games you can pick the picture pack, like COC? And MGQ has multiple artists. Maybe just an idea, devs use AI art but work with artists for alternate art. Or have the AI be the alternate art. If they are broke, get with the artists that want rev-share and have credit on screen. Player picks the artist pack.

I'd rather see your own drawing, and if you did it you'd also quickly get better at it. it even be exactly what you need.
This is my biggest issue with AI image generation. "Drawing people is my weakness" so they look to AI, never having to improve, never getting any better. Complete skill stagnation. Like what the calculator did to people's math skills.

That... kinda defeats the purpose of using AI. No?
Maybe. It's small amount of extra work/cost for a cool feature I think.

If in the pipeline the AI art comes first, that serves as a template for the artists to do their rendition. The artist can do their own take with no revisions instead of needing back and forth collaboration. You as a dev already know need exactly 6 full body artwork for a VN. For text games you may only need portraits. If the artist has done portraits, maybe you can use pre-existing art and just "Feature" the artist to promote them. Or maybe it's a bad idea and people will see it as artists competing with the AI art. I just really liked it in the games I mentioned. Just trying to brainstorm ways to keep artists involvement for devs that insist on AI, now maybe they consider this option.

If you haven't read through any threads here, you might not realize that Ai art is not well loved around here. People come in and declare their hate for it because it is stolen art or that it isn't really art and detracts from the people who made actual art that was used to train said AI.
Also 99% of AI-generated art is recognizable. Every time an AI creates an image, there’s always something off about the colors, and no matter how well-trained it is, the expressions tend to feel 'lifeless.

It became common and easily recognizable.
It always happens to any technology going public. If everyone has it, it will no longer have value.

That's the thing. People using AI are specifically trying to avoid artist's involvement, at least the majority of them. How often would you "insist" on using the microwave if you could otherwise be bothered to preheat the oven?
And for the ethical implications? Operating a printing press used to be hard but well paying work. Now a lot of us have printers at home. Print shops absolutely do still exist and some have great success. But in cases where you just want to turn words on a screen into words on a piece of standard-sized paper you can do that with the click of a button. Is that "wrong?"

I'm not saying there's no merit to what you're proposing. But the question is "who is this advice actually for?"

Without AI, I would've never started writing erotic captions. It has become my real passion and I've also been able to write out fantasies of my viewers. I see AI as a tool to bring my ideas into reality.
