How can I get RPG Maker Games to save?

I've noticed RPGM games that use a dragon icon typically work just fine, but if they have a blocky swordsman standing on a small square of grass they don't. It makes a "buzzer" sound when you select one of the save slots and nothing happens. Also, the options menu ALWAYS crashes on these games and says "URIError URI Malformed." Since this would create a setting save file I figure the problem is the same. Any help would be appreciated.
