I am planning to develop a game, but my questions are:

1. How does it work?
2. What are the rules?
3. How do I get paid?

I can model, animate and code, somewhat of a creative writer. (Have a story in mind)

4. Most important... How do I approach?

Any suggestions and help will be much appreciated.

This alone is usual as question. The answer is really long and there's dozen threads giving ; the search function is your friend.

2. What are the rules?
3. How do I get paid?

But this is really less usual and make me wonder what you are really asking for...

What rules are you talking about, and who do you think would pay you ?
