how do i know if a file is a false positive

i was checking the game ''The Demon Lord's Lover'' but when i scanned the file i got positive for trojan '' Trojan.ProxyChanger.dt'' , is it a false positive?

If you have any doubts its better to avoid potential viruses than deal with consequences. I've lost count, how many times I had to format drive C: and reinstall windows because of some infected files in early 2000s.

If you really need to run it - use some virtual machine.

When you see the warning, finish installing then go to amazon and buy something. Check your bank account over the next week or so. If no suspicious purchases are made you're probably safe.

Your antivirus will tell you what file contain the virus/trojan/whatever.

With this, go to

You must be registered to see the links

and submit that particular file. It will be tested with dozens of up to date antivirus. The less there's that find something, the higher are the chance that it's a false positive; especially if the ones that that find something are exotic antivirus.
