Artists like Nagooonimation and Bulging Senpai have gained tons of fans throughout their relatively short career span.

They have tons of patreons and I imagine tons of high paying commissions too.

how did they start off? What’s the key to becoming successful?

This adult animation industry is quite thirsty for more and more content. I’m certain that demand will grow exponentially.

I’m interested in become a 3D animation artist like them.

I suppose the key to success is aggressive advertisement on Twitter and other forums like these. Enough horny people willing to pay a few bucks. :)

I’ll post my Patreon link here at 2023-01-01. I can’t post it now due to legal reasons. :D

I have never heard of those artists, so I can't comment on why they have a lot of fans and patreons. My guess is that the content they produce isn't that interesting to me or I just never stumbled across them before.

Personally, I would say start with putting out free crap, as a way of showing what you can do. Porn consumers can be quite a fickle lot, so just making a declaration that you are going to be making pr0nz and it's going to be the best pr0nz ever, so please give me money and I will make crap for you, might go over about as well as a turd in a punch bowl.

Also, you probably want to state up front what kinds of things you will and won't do. Scat? Gore? Bestiality? Trans? Loli? 'I don't do gay'? Hyper size only? No buttsecks? Don't box yourself into a corner by declaring you will do something that you don't care for. People might be disappointed, if you won't do something they like, but I doubt they will scream hate and disgust at you, unless, you know, that is how you treat their interest/desire.

Interact with the community you are targeting. A bit of goodwill with 'the people' can go a long ways to gaining supporters and fans. Showing that you are interested in what they are talking about or that you have a different take on the same subjects, will at least get your name into 'circulation'. Just appearing out of nowhere and asking people to buy your crap art, probably isn't going to go over well a lot of folks.

The only time I found out about adult content artists is from being meme'd and me being horny/curious (hornicuous) about the source. The other time is when they make Youtube vids and Youtube recommends them to me, sometimes they make wholesome content and leave the NSFW stuff off Youtube.

Futa. BBC. Thic. Parodying popular game chars.

I think those are the main cash cows for 3d/2d artists. No real inside knowledge in this area, but that's just what I noticed over the years.
