How much gameplay do you like in NSFW games?

what's more important than the depth of the mechanics is that they meaningfully integrate with the main idea of the game, which many deep mechanics fail at. whatever you add to the game should support the story or the main idea, not detract or distract from it. in a porn game deep mechanics tend to distract from the main idea, which makes players frustrated and bored when they're forced to suffer through irrelevant or distracting secondary mechanics. doesn't matter how good the mechanic is, if it's not somehow connected to getting pussy it can't hold the interest.

there are exceptions of course, like having resource game mechanics in a brothel game. there you can go deep because it fits with the idea of brothel as means of production. but if you make a brothel game with a flight simulator it's not gonna fit no matter how good your simulator. the mechanic must fit the idea, AND it needs to support it rather than distract.

If i want a porn stories i go watch or read porn.
If i play a porn game i want gameplay.

I am expecial fond of the stat manipulation.
Where i get results based on my ability to manipulate stats rather then pick the right answer at the right time.

game are games, they exist alone. what kind of audience they draw in depends on the game, not on the audience.

then again we do see a lot of angry people here who seem to be forcing themselves to play incest games even though they hate incest, ntr games even though they hate ntr, or non-ntr games even though only pathetic weaklings play non-ntr games. so who knows, maybe some people are forced to play deep story driven adult dramas when they only want a quick fap.

I strongly prefer sex games to pure, "hallway" VNs, where you just click, click, click through the story. But I don't really want or need things like the options that were listed in the poll either.

What I want, and what makes it sexier for me, is a sandbox or semi-sandbox where I can choose where to go and who to interact with, and gradually "level up" my interactions with the various sex partners.

To me, most so-called gameplay (including most kinds of sandbox) are only distracting and annoying.
I am much more likely to download a VN.

Unless... IF the game play is really good and interesting, and the story is great as well, then the game could be a masterpiece which would be more difficult to attain if it were just a VN.

However such games are rather few.

And there are two things (the game part and the VN part) that have to be great rather than just one.

Personally I prefer gameplay which is not timed / button mashing, but instead some kind of strategy.

For h-games.... reading and occasional ren'py style choice popup is all I want outside of the h-content because I'm just playing them for a quick fap and a decent and/or funny story.

When I want actual gameplay from my games I don't play this stuff at all.
I get that shit from games that were made for my 3ds, or xbox (and formerly pc before my laptop died).

I view them as entirely different mediums. The kinda stuff from here I see as x-rated chose your own adventures stories or semi-interactive porn. And then there's normal games where you launch a hadoken, catch a pokemon, headshot a zombie, solve a murder, commit a few of your own, collect some cheese for Sheogorath, clear a puzzle stage, and cause a few million dollars of property damage street racing through busy intersections.
Any time a dev tries mixing the two I tend to lose interest pretty quick and stop playing because it's just not what I'm looking for at all. I'm either in the mood for a "real" game or I'm in a mood to fap.

The problem is that:
- Many devs are lone wolves. And quite often with very limited experience in programming, rendering or writing
- In order to make a game great, ALL aspects must be great. This means that the more aspects you include, these must be great.
- Most adult games use the Patreon / Subscribestar subscription method. This means that supporters will demand periodical updates (as often as possible) with decent size. But making the development complicated by introducing gameplay elements will probably increase development time of each update without increasing lewd content.

You can easily see that these problems also interact with each other.

So, games which I recommend which have good gameplay:
- Patronus (if you read the thread then you see exactly what is the problem with such games, this game has an incredible potential but it's not really delivering on it's promise, even though already in development for years)
- Love of Magic
- Bright Sun's Card Adventure (abandoned)
- The Last Sovereign
- Koihime Musou / Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Quite a lot of RPGM games also have decent gameplay (included with the engine) but generally are at a big disadvantage as VN's, so I still tend to dislike them. The Last Sovereign is an exception because it's just really good.

I love to read a good story with great characters, so I will choose a VN. Most of the games that promise a sandbox have the same formula: do repetitive tasks to progress the story and see content if certain stats are high enough.

Just a few games do really offer gameplay mechanics that are interesting and which work great. And the definition of interesting depends on the player himself. Some like puzzles and minigames, others like management games.

I would say for me gameplay is pretty important. It doesn't have to be triple A experience or anything like that. I enjoy the turnbased but i hate when i can speed up gameplay if grinding is part of the game. When playing a Hgame im not playing for the lewd stuff only. If that was the case i could just read some hentai mangas or CG sets artist makes. Karryns prison mixes both things nicely and of course it can get improve upon further but one comes to mind how its done good with both elements. Though i do wish it had some normal events instead purely being combat related all of it. I wouldn't mind more focused Hgames aiming for a more combat/gameplay area as long as there still events for the non combat side. Its kinda hard to focus on squishing your hog while also pay attention to the game lol.

It depends on the game, really, and the engine it's being made on.

For example, I often take the time to play Ren'py games on my phone or via screen share when I'm in bed. So when devs load those up with weird minigames that require me to mash my keyboard or pretend I'm warming up for Valorant with an aimlab session, it annoys the living hell out of me.

For RPGM, it's usually always the same gameplay. I'm alright with these as long as they didn't artificially inflate the difficulty by making you grind for an absurd amount of time, or go find 50 items without any clues, but thankfully it's pretty easy to speed up my progression if I feel inclined with these via saveeditonline or cheat engine.

Unity.. is a mixed bag, usually depends on how experienced/skilled the dev is and if the systems are enjoyable.

Basically, I don't have a "firm" answer about how much gameplay I like in my Hgames. It's largely dependent on if the gameplay and systems are decent, or if they were just created with the intention of wasting my time to make their game appear larger than it actually is. If your gameplay and systems have a purpose, and a GOOD purpose, then it's fine.

There are very few adult games that I actually played from start to finish. I am an avid gamer so I normally have high standards when it comes video games.

I'm not usually looking for something deep in my VNs, so if its too grindy. I tend to like games with decisions, and then seeing how those decisions play out, like Good Girl Goes Bad or Fate of Irina. Nothing pisses me off more, though, than encounters tied to an in game date that takes significant timw to get to. Like on Sunday in game getting a quest for next Sunday, or "the 3rd of next month" on the 4th.

It's very hard to make a porn game with good gameplay. Most games that implement gameplay distract me with a repetitive and boring game loop that has nothing to do with the game.

What I do like is a good or funny story with interesting characters and nice content. And I don't mind whether they are a kinetic or branching story.

There's a little something I call "presentation". It's how the game intergrates porn into the gameplay. It's what seperates porn games from normal games. Essentially:

• Only nudity as sexual content is roughly a bad mod for a game.
• A game with sex scenes that have little to do with a game have bad presentation.
• A game where sex has effects on the gameplay (though could be removed with mods and have a relatively normal game) has fair presentation.
• A game where sex is integral to the gameplay has good presentation.

That being said, you will also need good gameplay to start with. This is why alot of porn games simply take their base mechanics from another game. While that is how most games are made (and to some extent creativity and thought), they often don't add anything original to it. Anyways, porn games aren't all about porn, like how shooter games aren't just shooting a gun over and over.

This is actually a somewhat complicated question to answer, because there's quite a bit of nuance in it.

For starters, I don't generally tend to expect much in the way of 'gameplay' in porn games. As a result, I don't tend to anticipate or think much about 'gameplay' when deciding which games/VNs to check out. And what 'gameplay' may appear here and there isn't usually particularly good gameplay. It usually comes in the form of minigames or maybe some kind of gated-grind of some kind. Most of the time, it just isn't that fun or interesting, and tends to feel more like a gamey sort of chore more than anything else. Sometimes, despite the simplicity of what gameplay offerings these games may have, it is nevertheless decently integrated, and actually is a nice addition that can offer a break from the dialogue-reading and lend the game/VN a bit more interactivity.

So, when asked how much gameplay do I like in porn games, I guess it just depends on what the game and gameplay is, because if it's anything like much of what passes for gameplay that is typically seen in porn games, I don't think I'd miss 85% of it, and would probably be happy to not have to bother with most of it.

It also depends on the kind of game it is, and what sort of mood I'm in, I suppose. Sometimes, I'm totally on board with a slow burn narrative dive with all the bells and whistles of plot, character development, and storytelling. Other times, I just want to see some good sex scenes and beautiful renders.

Ideally, I think I would generally like to see the standard of gameplay elements in porn games rise, and to see more variety where appropriate and where it can be well-integrated, but I also understand how tall of an order that can be, and so don't expect it to happen. Even some indy/mobile game mechanics I could see working well for certain types of games, but again, coding out game mechanics is a tall order for projects like these, especially when many devs and authors don't seem all that serious about their own work when it comes to writing and renders as it is.
