How the hell do AVN developers get licensed music for their game?

Hey all! I'm looking into music scores for an upcoming visual novel of mine (still debating if it will be AVN or just VN), but one thing I'm concerned by is the license agreement. On most sites like Epidemic Sound (and others), it specifically says the music may not be used in association with pornogrpahic content. I can say for a fact some very pouplar VNs (won't name any) have music licensed from Epidemic Sound and other similar sites. So....

Is it just a matter of them ignoring the license and hoping they don't get sued? (Kinda makes me nervous to follow this example)

Thank you!

Bro use every DMRed music that exist, what they gonna do? Arrest you? :HideThePain:.

Going by what i know you kinda just have to comply to the terms or hope no one cares, i really don't think ES gonna care if you use the music for porn games, going by their geral guideline:
Our music is intended to be used as background music to support your audiovisual or podcast content. For example, you may not publish our music for listening purposes only or make edited or remixed versions of our tracks available via any platform. Please see the terms & conditions applicable for your subscription for more information.
Using remixes is a way to try to get around legal terms, i would say use what you thinks is ok and simply change it if anyone takes action, i saw some devs changing their music because the creator/owner asked with no much trouble. But i dunno how patreon would stand with this, the platform is pretty bitchy nowadays.

Hope a experienced dev see this and gives you more insight. peace.

Thanks for your reply bro. So just a bit later in that agreement, it says:

Prohibited uses. You shall comply with any applicable laws and regulations when using our Content and Site, and as noted above, you may only use the Sound Recordings as allowed under a License. In particular, you may not use:

in connection with any material or otherwise in a manner or context that is ... pornographic;

That seems pretty final to me. I mean they won't arrest you, but they can fine and revoke your license, and ask you remove all of their tracks from the game. Now I know this is different if you're an unincorporated solo dev, basically releasing just here. But I do plan to release on Steam, where violations of contract is taken more seriously.

I guess this is probably a question for an experienced dev who has walked those shoes. But anyhow, thanks for your reply man. One of the reasons I love this site is exactly because it's abit of the "wild west" of development and it feels free to bend the rules abit for the creative vision. I just want to make sure it doesn't come back to bite me in the ass.

the best and easiest way, is to make direct contact with a "musician" that is not affiliated with any of the "big" companies like sony or Universal. there are countless out there that would be willing write and create music for games cheaply, even pornographic ones. maybe only for royalties if you are lucky.

So, I used a lot of for Love of Magic, including a lot of tunes by an awesome composed called .

(Which reminds me, I should really do a part 2 at some point :D )

I went on to commission a triptych of songs for Morningstar (Katie's three sound-tracks) from him.

(They're all available as CCBY for others to use, like all his music, but I got to design them an get three tracks with the same theme and central riffs for $200/track).

Totally recommend him if you need awesome music for your AVNs.

Hey, wow, thank you for this reply! This is really helpful. I think I have enough information to take it from here and do my own digging now.

Btw, I had no idea you also had a youtube. Just subscribed and hope you do a part 2 someday, it's very interesting listening and learning. Thank you again :)
