How to make your assests and how others do it?

Hey, so recently I've been working with Ren'Py and DAZ3D, and I found that getting into them is fairly easy—at least to some extent. I already have a programming background for Ren'Py, and for DAZ, even though I had no prior 3D skills, it mostly seems to be about getting assets, dropping them in, and making the scene look as good as possible. The hardest part so far has been setting up good lighting and composition.

But there’s a but.

How do I find specific assets? Yes, I know there are websites that offer free models, but when I say specific, I mean things that I’m 100% sure I won’t find among free models. Buying assets isn’t an option because I live in a third-world country, and the economy isn't exactly helping—so even $5 is too much for me.

My real question is: How do I make assets, and how do others do it? For example, take a fantasy VN like Imperial Chronicles. The assets and characters in that game don’t seem like the typical free fantasy models you see everywhere—they look unique. So, how can I achieve that?

I’ve done some research and even asked AI, but the answers weren’t quite what I was looking for. So if you’re a VN developer or know how they create their assets, I’d be very glad to hear you. Thanks in advance.

Are you aware that there is a very extensive asset piracy section of this site? "Asset Releases" is what you should look for.

Ideally you should pay to the creators - otherwise if everyone pirates the contents eventually the supply will stop. But if you are literally in a place where you cannot afford to pay, then you are not a lost customer anyway.

Making content for daz3d is like making any 3d content - use a 3d editor to make an object, uv map it, separate the surfaces, paint (or "obtain") the textures, (for figures) rig the mesh. There are some additional complications to make it work properly in daz. Youtubes etc are your friend, there are some content creators who give advice and demonstrations.

It's not simple, and will take weeks of learning and practice to get "basic" competent, and years to get "good" at it.

Be warned: 3d asset creation is basically another massive time consuming hobby, at least similar amount of effort (if you are getting to semi-pro quality level) as making a Renpy game+renders in the first place!

Yes, absolutely this.

I only do for myself some renders here and then but it takes usually hours (after corrections). Doing this on a pro level, i am not sure if i would have a life. Well, i don't have a life but if i had. Imagine the free time.

I admire SY, OOT and Linsay for making so great assets.

Blender is probably really the best choice, since it's free. The time is not.
But hey, if you really like it, why not.

This secret section "asset release' is really tempting. More often than not, the asset that look so great but have no good morphs. Or don't so great when you render them.
Especially room assets are hit and miss. If i can not move walls, it isn't wort the time. Most are fixed with just the probs moving.

That's a whole another level. Try Blender for a start. Create UVs and paint it with Ucupaint (it's free!).
You don't need to spend money, well atleast for me. You just need a lot more digging.
