can someone tell me how was the butt morphed like that
was this even made in daz or blender?

I'd say it was made in Daz3D using a D-Former on the blonde character. If you want to do it, apply a D-Former on the character in a T-Pose in zero position, otherwise you will struggle to do it. There are some nice tutorials on youtube if you want to try it out, just search for D-Former and Daz.

Looks great, but at 10 times the work I can't imagine making this process part of the usual workflow...

Oh, yeah. Took me a bit my first time trying it. But I'd imagine after doing it a few times it becomes pretty quick with a good GPU.
