Html game saves get erased after a few days

Hi!

I play html games for a long time, I save the progress in the browser, not exporting them. Recently, all my html saves were erased.
I thought it may be because of an update from Windows. I started playing some of the games from the beginning. Today my saves were lost again.
I use Chrome and play the games from my laptop, which I usually don't shut down, I just close the cover and the laptop sleeps.
But that's what I've always did. Didn't have this problem before.
Does anyone know something to fix this? Thanks!

are you running out of disk space or haven't cleared your browser's data in decades? your browser will start silently cleaning itself if you do.

I installed windows 11 one year ago. A few weeks ago, it prompted for 24h2 update. I had this problem after the update.
Edit: Or what if Chrome changed something with a new update and now saves in session Storage instead of local. Can this happen? And can I change it back to local?

nah (and if that were happening you'd lose saves the moment you close the game tab).

if you also updated chrome, you could take a look in the settings if there's no change in cookie/storage settings (such as deleting them on browser closing), try disabling plugins to see if an update to one of them causes this, try using another chromium browser for some time, if only just for those games, to see if it's limited to your chrome installation, clean some cookies and site data (there should be a button to view site data in the settings if you don't want to delete everything), contact microsoft support if you still suspect their update is at fault

Probably just a word of caution if anything, but be sure to always backup your saves from time to time. Export a local copy of your save from the HTML game (or to the cloud if you are running out of local disk space) and/or find the specific save file in AppData local storage and there should be a folder with the name of the HTML game that you are playing and backup those files. In case there's any weird update or if you clear your cookies, you can just load the backup copy of your save from local storage even if there is an update that erases all your HTML save data.

Didn't find any problem in the browser settings. I started a new game and before closing the game I also make a local copy of the save.

Have the same issue. Mayne since a week or so all my saves of all my HTML games are gone. I havent cleared my brower cache or anything like that.

Really annoying because especially many HTML games are grindy and/or annoying to replay. :_/

Will probably mean I will stop 99% of all my current HTML games and ignore them now because I wont have the time to replay them.
