Hello!
I hope someone here can advise me on why this is happening, but on certain HTML-games, differently coloured text shows up with enormous spaces between the letters, while regular text still shows up normally, like this:

Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

colored speech text in this game is using letter-spacing with a value of 100%, which your browser decided to respect

as an aside, letter spacing is a means of emphasizing words or sentences (more common in some countries and less in others), but i'm not sure that's what Apollo Seven intended.

I actually tried googling the "Seems like a bad night..." sentence but no hits :(
google's becoming increasingly drunk. i've tried identifying a screenshot today and "prn" typo in search keywords showed mostly rule34 sites, but when i corrected it to "porn" thinking it might improve the results further, google censored the search, saying no relevant results were found.

Frogperson Aside from switching to a browser that interprets letter-spacing correctly, you can open the html file of the games in a text editor and find/replace "letter-spacing:100%" with "letter-spacing:normal"

Yeah this is a problem caused by an update to the browser you're using that changed how the CSS I was using is displayed. That's a problem with HTML games in general, exactly how things are displayed is dependent an intermediary program on the users end.

Although even beyond HTML all software is ephemerary and dependent on other layers like the OS and even below that basic hardware instructions.

But in this case, your CSS is wrong. Letter-spacing doesn't support %.

It worked just fine until about a month ago.
It "worked" only because it had no effect. % isn't supported.

Btw, is it just me, or does it feel silly to talk development wearing santa hats?

Yup, that has indeed worked.

Firefox has the spaces, Chrome doesn't. Huh. I suppose that was a, maybe too, obvious fix.
To be fair, I was also curious what made that happen, as much as how to fix it.

That's another reason to be all the more grateful that something as complex as this game is being made despite these difficulties. Although, I have to admit, some of my favourite content that you've made are the little smaller cyoa-type stories like The Intern.
