How does everyone know if a game room is still being updated or not?

basically speaking, you cannot.
Games are generally available here because a member shared it. Therefore, a game update can be old because the author of the game do not works on it anymore, or because no one shared the last update of the game.

Even the "abandoned" prefix, on top of the game thread, is generally purely a guess. It mean that no one have news from the game author since a long time, but this do not necessarily imply that the game will never be updated again.
