Maybe confirmation bias, but I swear I've seen more similar or exact models in Daz games than Honey Select 1-2 or Koikatsu. Which I think it should be the opposite.
Daz has a store that a lot of devs buy models from. A lot of new devs barely make alterations to those models. Where as with HS and KK games, you have an extremely robust character creator. So unless you're playing parody games, you'd rarely come across models not made by the dev.

That is a bit odd...

That first one is Honey Select. The second is apparently blender + AI Gen? Can't confirm that second one, as that's from a comment on the game thread. If you're looking for a similar style to it, but definitely not AI gen, look at Mist.
The First one is pretty good, but does come off looking a bit Asian. What I loved about the second one is it's about as basic as you can get yet all the details you want are there, Especially the eyes and lips.
Mist is pretty similar but it looks very plastic. The hair is terrible it looks like plastic, and the skin shines sometimes a bit too much also giving off a plastic look. It is very close and If i could avoid those two things that would be perfect...

The bane of Honey Select. It's very difficult to make non-asian characters. Koikatsu has one too. Male characters in it are a pain to make... well, look like dudes. :ROFLMAO:
lol The thing I hate most about Kiokatsu games is the male part always looks really off, it's too basic. It's a skin coloured stick with a pink tip most of the time. The dudes do come off looking a bit scrawny. The women are usually fine though. Honey Select, I don't mind the Asian look but I don't think I'd have mostly Asians in my game so fighting against that would he difficult.

So what was behind Mist out of curiosity? DAZ?

I've seen ones with added detail, and I think they add too much. Makes it look like it's not even the same art style. I stick with the simpler ones because I think they match better. (Though I have to use pubes to hide the seam at the base)

Took me a long time just to get here. Not exactly a twink, but definitely no manly man. :ROFLMAO:

No idea what Mist uses. Blender is my best guess, with the animation quality.

Honestly that's one of the best I've seen in the KK style

They're usually really good, I remember looking at Headpats & Handholding a while back and being impressed, but after looking at Salacious Sakura I think that one's even better you really went all out on the detailing in that one.

Thanks for you're motivation I'll look into it and try to get to work, Honestly I've been wanting to make an AVN for a while. I know Ren'Py is probably my best shot for an engine, though it's a little basic. I've heard of Honey Select 2, Just seems like it's simulation software not rendering/design.

As for the AI, maybe. It's much much easier but it's inconsistent, requires a subscription to an uncensored version, and you immediately get debuffed with the "Created with AI" tag, if you try to sell your AVN.

I'm also assuming I probably need to know python and basic scripting.
Honestly wouldn't worry about any of these things, especially the selling part. Just try to learn the ropes without putting yourself in some position where you may need to compete with devs with years and more of experience and have captured an audience.

Take your idea and run with it and see where it may lead. If its cool enough people
would pay for it, go for it then when the time is right. :)

I can confirm. There are not many gay focused games that show KK or HS characters. Most of time I see, 2D art, AI art, Daz, Sims 4 (My new project is based on this) and blender.

To this day, I have no idea of what Koikatsu or Honey Select looks like.

EDIT: But if I were straight... yeah, I would probably choose KK or HS. The only bad thing, is that your game won't be able to be on steam (because, you know, using existing assets.. kinda like what happens with games made with sims 4 visuals. If you ever want to go that route, 2D art, Daz or Blender should be the way. AI art seems to be under fire these days.

I think I'll probably just use Honey Select until I understand more. It has more of the look I want, and seems to be a pretty common starting place. Hopefully that means there's a lot of guides on how to get from point A to Z.

I'm spinning not sure what to do trying to figure it out myself...

Honey Select 2 seems great, it has tons of guides and everything but all together it's like 350GB, that's not in the budget...

Honey Select 1 is what I was originally going to use but there is almost no tutorials or support without deep diving.

Koikatsu I have no idea where to begin here... I'm guessing these are what people use?

I'm kind of at a loss but trying to push through o_O

https://f95zone.to/threads/honey-select-2-dx-r16-illusion.53457/ - Main thread, you can download it in part or go for the all in one 72GB repack which has pretty much most of the mods in already. You don't need the massive 273GB one.

Then the guide: https://f95zone.to/threads/illusion-hs2-studio-neo-chara-maker-help-guides-thread.66252/ can help you in creating and posing although most of it is simple in that you create a character with slide bars and then pose them, poses automatically are in game so you don't have to worry about animation. To 'render' simply press F11 in the Studio.exe program. If you need help please ask me or you can ask Insomnimaniac Games (although he works in Koikatu)

feel free to @ me if you have questions
Thank you both, I'll play around with the programs a bit and see what works for me. I wanted to kind of dive in a bit and see what I'd be working with so I started messing with Honey Select. I think I understand how it works a little, but it's a bit awkward to use. There's also a lot of clipping but that's understandable I just gotta work around it, maybe find a way to allow collision with skin. Just need to keep banging my head against the table until I get an idea haha.

I think HS2 already has a collision slider...could be wrong on that...

Clipping in what way? If it's hair, you're looking for something called "dynamic bones" (or a similar name). Probably found in the HSPE menu (Should be on the left side)

Edit: Unless you mean during character creation. In which case, that's more complicated depending on what kind of clipping.
