Aloha, folks!

I am an IT Student and i am looking for a possibilities to practice my coding skills / learn something new :)

I mean - like a real man i am enjoying the work you're creating here ("for a great fap-nights")
So i've just thought, that maybe i could help to some of you by creating a new content..Or at least to try to.

Actually i am focusing on C#/Java. Also i have some experience with Unity and LibGDX - but i am ready for everything - Python for Ren'Py / Script Languages aka Lua (RPGM is using it as far i know), JS, HTML...Just everything..as long as it has some doc's :D

So, yeah - just answer here or pm me.. ^^'' I would be glad to join you and to offer my help! :)

Make sure to also look around yourself, offer your services in your signature, and watch out for people looking for coders. Stay active in the forums and you'll find an opportunity. Activity is the best advice I can give you. I've only been here 2 months but I've got 2 projects. All of that came from activity.

Making mods is a good way to learn a certain engine and to gain some popularity. The main issue here is the lack of finished games, so you'll spend a lot of time porting your code to newer versions.

You should pick either Unity or Ren'py since those are the most popular engines here. RPGmaker is on its way out due to poor performance and most people using it as a glorified VN engine combined with tedious walking sections.

Joining the discord server of games that interest you (while clearly lacking in the coding department) can also help.

It also shows will. A lot of people are interested in making games; sadly the actual work of MAKING games can often be frustrating, slow and un-exciting (even if it includes boobs). By sitting down and making something, even if the art isn't where you want it to be, you show that you're better than the 90% of people who 'have an idea', but never move it beyond that stage.

As for marketability; the bulk of devs here use Ren'Py, so picking up that won't hurt. Even if you don't end up working on a team using Ren'Py, you'll still have a good solid understanding of what it does well, what it does poorly, and why people like it. I'm partial to Unity myself; as a coder it provides a good tradeoff between power and built-in functionality; but it's worth remembering that a lot of the best games in the genre are made by artist/writers, not coders.

I think that almost all of the best games are made by none coders ; unless they also are artists. I have plenty of good ideas in my coder's mind, but seriously, a full working IA for characters in an adult game ? :D
As coder, I see beyond the game. Even when playing one, what I see is all the mechanism behind the scene. So, imagine what a game made by me can be. Some amazingly good features, but in the end a cold impersonal game. To make a game, you need to stay far away form the game itself, you need to see it as a whole thing, like a painter stepping few steps back from his canvas, to embrace the whole scene. But a coder tend to look at it with a magnifying glass, which is the opposite of that he should do.

Hello,

Games are one of the hardest programming branch. It was not just doing things.

You have to create good interface, take care of usability, plus optimization timing and of course arts.

You need experience and lots of it.

Start working, there where no easy way out...

Oh. my. god.

You have just summed up exactly my experience. I get too immersed in systems and implementation details, and lose the "art" of making the game fun and sexy.

To be fair, since I wrote this, I evolved. I need to still be careful and stop myself going too far, but (let's be positive) the day I'll find the time to works seriously on it, my game should be less technical and more interesting.

I have a suggestion if you're interested. I've been working on a new game engine for a year which a few people are using, but I want more people to use it to find issues or pain points, or ideas for new improvements. It's a nice little engine and people who use it like it so far. It's based on web tech and releases to HTML5 or desktop. If you're interested in learning a new engine, you could try making a game in it.

The engine is narrat. I've posted a thread about it in the forum too.
