Ignoring doesn't ignore

I'm pretty sure this is a dumb question, but I can't figure it out myself...
I have several tags under the "Ignore" list in my settings but I still have to ignore manyally threads, even if they have the given tags.
Is there a way NOT to see threads with specific content?

the current behavior is:
ignoring tags hides stuff on the forum side (browsing games forum, using forum search).

for latest updates page:
exclude tags, bookmark the page, access latest updates through that bookmark.

Pretty useless feature if it doesnt even do what it should.
