Hello, I'm starting to develop my games, and it will still take some time before I publish something, I'll do it when I have something more solid, I want your opinion on what you like to see most in a +18 game (art, story, what fetishes?) which game do you think are good and would you support on Patreon ? (what's your favorite game here ? )

Just make the game YOU want to make.

You could honestly get 10 very different answers in the next 10 replies about what people like. I'm not big on fantasy games, but there are many successful fantasy games. People are gonna complain no matter what you do, so you may as well make something you actually want to work on. Game development is already demotivating enough without working on something you're not passionate about.

I usually prefer 2D -even the poorly drawn kind- to 3D unless you know what you're doing. Most 3D renders give an awful uncanny valley feeling - 99% of devs just can't get faces or proportions right and half of the time those games make you feel like you're having sex with a parody of a human or with some monster from a B-movie.

Story > art anytime. That said, extremely bad art (eg; the above mentioned 5 minute 3D renders or random real porn) can be a turn off. The worse the art, the better the story will need to be for me to play it.

You didn't mention gameplay on the poll, but that's the other important aspect. After all, that's the whole point of a lewd game - otherwise it's just a porn gallery with extra steps. Unless you're doing a VN or other story-driven content, gameplay matters a lot.

Really the gameplay is the most important thing ! And it's what I'm going to have the most trouble building, but if I can execute what I have in mind I think it will be good... It sure won't be for everyone, unfortunately it reduces my reach

Like others have said, make the game that you want to make or see more of on the market. Look at some of your own favorite games and draw inspiration from them. Build upon those themes/ideas and make something that you're familiar with. That will give you the most chance to succeed.

Or you can go the "please everyone" route with a vanilla/harem/incest/sandbox/ntr/story driven/simulation/customization clusterfuck. Those don't have a high rate of completion tho.

There's a difference between what game you want to make, and the game you are best suited to make given your skillset. So, if you're making this poll to decide which artist to hire, that's absolutely fine. But if you're already good at making art yourself, absolutely stick to what you know best and continue getting better at it, even if that's not exactly what you want. Where the mantra "make what you WANT" makes sense is story/fetish selection. Do that. It won't you do much good to work on something that you don't like, or even worse, actively repulses you.

1) If you're indeed asking what art to comission the answer is 2D. 2D all the way, not because 3D is inherently bad, but because most 3D is some uncanny shit, that actively makes the game worse for some people. No art is genuinely better than dazshit. Seriously, Illusion HS is better than that.

2) Something like 3/4 story + gameplay, 1/4 art. Good art is nice, but it won't make a game on itself. As long as the art isn't actively driving me away (see: uncanny daz shit) I don't really care if art is less than perfect.

3) That's kinda a false dichotomy. A game with ending can be perfectly replayable, as long as it has gameplay.

4) See above, do what you like most.

5) This question I reeeeeally don't like. Look, you're confusing two things. Setting and character realism. People like realistic caracters and generally don't give a shit about the setting in porn. I'm gonna vote fantasy on this one, not because I like the setting per se, but because it gives me an extra early indication whether the author is any good. With bad fantasy it often becomes much clearer from the beginning so I don't have to waste time.

If you are looking to make a living in developing a game, or even to simply break even. Stop. Move along. Don't bother.

See this post and the other posts in that thread, as well as the links to other nearly duplicate threads/polls posted.

I just wanted to add, it might be also better for story writing to stick for something, that one knows about really well, either through lots of reading/watching/listening/recherche and/or personal experience.
It may e.g. be a good idea to write a story about an intern who rises to be the leader of a big company, replaces the staff to it's own favour and put in a no-clothing-policy, but hard to write it believable, when the dev just made his/her high-school-graduation and has no experience about how such a company works at all.
There might be people with enough fantasy and logical thinking, who can make up something interesting just from their thoughts. But I think, this is rather the exception.

this is a very common advice but mostly useless. this advice is why 99% of games start with the mc waking up in his bed then going to shower to stare at his dick. nobody wants to read that shit. nobody's interested in anything a writer knows, there's nothing more boring than a writer nerd's life. that's why we make up shit about dragons, space ships, horny ghost girls, massacres, telepathic fish and sons fucking their mothers.

when we write about office life, which is the most boring thing in the world to know about, the reason we fail is because we're shit writers and couldn't make it into story about human relations and emotions. not because we didn't detail the mindnumbing boredom of office life correctly. in fact every time I read a story where the writer is obviously trying to infuse his day job into the story it's always just a massive cringe fest. like who are the correct terminology and detail supposed to entertain, other truck drivers with a writing hobby? it's the worst idea.

better advice would probably be never write what you know. and whatever life you describe should be in such scarce detail that ANYONE who has no idea about it can effortlessly follow it. you're not writing for the rare expert who could tell if the writer actually worked in an office, you're writing for exactly everyone else who have no clue whatsoever. you need to become better at faking things, not an expert at everything there is.

Yeah, people who've had sex should be barred from writing erotica. Because as we all know, there's nothing better than sex scenes written by virgins. These are the best. No.

The advice was solid. Write either using your lived experience OR if your life is boring do your research.

Most people say they prefer 2D art to 3D art, that's kind of disappointing to me..., I always like to see 3D projects no matter how ridiculous they are, and a lot of people talk about the story so I assume they play a lot of RPG Maker games...

It makes me think about doing an RPG Maker version before something in 3D, it would save time and I would have something published while I do the project in 3D...

it's one of the most famously wrong pieces of advice. just google "bad advice write what you know" for an endless list of published authors mentioning it as the #1 bad advice they've ever received. even people like stephen king and george r. r. martin talk on stage what a ridiculous piece of advice it is. it just doesn't make any sense for a creative craft that's all about making shit up.

No, theres just a really loud minority that really wants to see more games with 2D art.

You gotta take these polls with a grain of salt. They're really only filled by people who's needs are not met by whatever already exists on the adult games market. Think about it, a guy who's drowning in games he wants to play is not going to be browsing General tab looking to answer questions about what games he's interested in.

The best made-up shit is usually grounded on reality; that's what allows you to relate to even the most fantastic characters and settings. Knowledge on the subject is what makes the difference between The Expanse and 12 Monkeys (the TV show), or Mr. Robot and some generic CSI/cop show "hacker".

There are games where it's painfully clear when the dev has no idea about the kink that they're describing, or when they have no knowledge at all about what they're talking and they're just copying some scene from a porn movie, thinking that's how some fetish works in real life.

So yes, maybe don't go and write about your sex life unless it's particularly interesting, but ground your writing on what you know and like: just like you wouldn't write a novel about a tennis player when you don't even know the rules of the game, you don't write scenes for kinks that you don't even enjoy or understand.
