For the text editing I used Translator++. To edit the sprites, you first need to decrypt the image files. After that. I opened the game in RPG Maker and searched for all sprites of men and noted what file they belong to. You could also do that while playing the game, but that takes longer. Next I either created a new character with the built-in character generator or I changed the colors of an existing female sprite in Photoshop. You need to replace the respective male characters in the corresponding file with the new female sprite. In the newest game they are located at www/img/characters. This post goes over the basics of doing a lot of this stuff in detail.
