Someone please help me to cross the desert

If you are having trouble beating the scorpions, buy 3 petrification rings from the merchant in Sicotta (i.e., desert city) and equip it to everyone except Noel.

To cross the desert, 1) go straight past the injured woman, 2) make a right near the adventurer, 3) fight with scorpions and go to the down arrow, 4) go towards the left arrow near the skeleton, 5) finish the massage event and go towards the right arrow. From here, you should be able to figure out the rest.

The Japanese themed map called Kyoto if I'm not mistaken.

OK, but how do I get there, please? I've killed the Phimosis Dragon. There's some dialogue between my companions about two places we can possibly go next, but I don't see a way to get anywhere but back to previous section of game, via ship.

They said something about having two choices where we went next, but it was only about destinations; not a word was said about how to get there.

I took the ship back to the port. I looked all around. I went back to the school, and talked to every NPC I could find. I tried the teleports both in the port and at the Big Dong village.

I'm stumped.

I am finding that Kyoto is very different than the first two venues. Instead of fighting, it seems to be about detective work and figuring out puzzles...
