They're honey select models, sue me. Curious if it's even worth trying to use Honey Select animations since there's always going to be a colored background. Thoughts?

Depends. Videos are a pain in the ass for mobile/web. I used them (from HSS) for Making Movies, and I honestly regret the choice. Having said that, making animations the hard way, especially if you start from HSS, is... hard. I spent some time playing with it in Spline2D, but the end result was pretty fugly (which is largely down to me being a shit 2D artist/animator
