I'm going to make a rpg game and have been looking into several game engines like unity and RPG maker. RPG maker has all features that I need but I have seen quite a few hate comments about RPG maker games.
Does anyone else feel the same?
And mainly why?

If you are looking at it from a 'will people play my game" stand point and not a technical one, then the answer is yes they will.
While you might have seen many negative comments about RPG Maker, you will notice there are good ones too but the most important things to take away is

1) The comments, good and bad are from a vocal minority.
2) Many of the negative comments are about design choices, MTL, using stock assets etc. and not about the engine itself.
3) There are still many games coming out using that engine, showing there is a market for it.

At the end of the day, like with all games, some people won't like the engine, some won't like the graphics, some won't like the story etc. etc. but people will play it.

Peasant's Quest and Warlock and Boobs are two RPGM games that come to my mind that are pretty good and popular.

Personally, I like RPGM games, especially finished Japanese RPGM games, but apparently I am in the minority.
To reiterate what morphnet said, I have seen my share of people that complain about RPGM for things like machine translations, stock assets, or a boring combat system.

However much you might hear people complaining about RPGM games, they seem popular enough that if you have a good game, there will be people that will want to play it. Just be prepared to hear random people blunder into your game thread, bitch and complain about "RPG Maker" and leave.

Well, many people claim to hate NTR games, but a lot of them still continue to play them. You shouldn't focus too much on this. If you're planning to make an RPG game, RPG Maker is one of the best options out there. Of course, if your game is full of bugs and becomes a pain to play, people will naturally dislike it.
