Is starting a blog a good idea?

Recently I made a blog with the intention to share the progress I'm making with my game , my brainstorming ideas, renders, short stories, and maybe even rants about my experiences developing my first game.

I'm my blog's admin which means I decide what content I want to keep, modify, or delete.
Also they don't seems to have a problem with my game's main theme: Incest.
Is a Wordpress blog (not sure if its the best choice for adult related material).

There are some limitations:
-The service provider doesn't allow explicit representations of sex or anything that can be considered pornography, nudes are OK tho.
-Storage is limited, I need to be mindful about file sizes or I could reach the limit before I know it.

Probably there are more limitations I haven't consider yet but I like the idea of being able to edit, update, and modify post and content as I see fit.

So the question is if a blog can be useful during the creation process and how to get the best out of it. Maybe someone who have done it before can share some knowledge about it; like things to do and things not to do with my blog.

The blog:

I just started that blog so there is not much to see, but gonna be updating it often.

The renders look great. Maybe expand more on the Charcters/Development progress.
Also, If you want to get traffic to your blog with wordpress you'll have to do the following:

- Upgrade to a Premium. I think its around $5 a month.
- Buy a custom domain. ($4-20 a year) - Try going with .com as thats the most common that pulls in traffic.
- Maximise your SEO so your site comes up in google search (Need Premium)
- Share the hell out of your blog on your Social Media. Including Patreon (If you have it).

Most importantly. Because you are making an adult game. You need to have a disclaimer upon entering the blog saying its for 18/21+ only. Or Wordpress will shut you down.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply,

there are a few things that I find confusing; I marked my blog as "Mature" and once marked as mature it has some limitations.

From the Wordpress support pages:

Code:
A blog or website that is marked as Mature is excluded from public areas of the WordPress.com service. This means:

    It will not appear in the Reader or other tag listings
    It will not appear in Top Blogs listings, recent posts, or related posts listings on other blogs
    The blog’s users cannot use that URL as a link in their WordPress.com Forums profile

Mature blogs and their owners are permitted to utilize all other aspects of WordPress.com. We do not suspend blogs solely for the presence of mature content and there are no interstitials or other “age gates” on WordPress.com.

However, there are limitations to the mature content permitted on our service. Please don’t:

    Post visual depictions of sexually explicit acts (such as, but not limited to, images, videos, and drawings) that can be considered pornographic;
    Post links or ads to adult-oriented affiliate networks, such as pornography site signups;
    Post links, text, or images promoting or advertising escort or erotic services;
    Post images of extreme violence or gore without associated context or commentary;
    Post images of child pornography;
    Post content that promotes pedophilia, such as blogs with galleries of images of children where the images, content surrounding the images, or the intent of the blog is sexually suggestive.
Also I remember reading that if the blog is marked as mature it is removed from search engines results, like Google.

Browsing their support site I found this question:

"Basically before I upgrade, I wanted to make sure that I can post adult xxx content, obviously nothing illegal, gross, but if I am, what are the limitations and can I use my blog and domain to sell content?"

The answer:

"Hi there
talks all about mature content.
Blogs hosted here at WordPress.COM are very limited in what you can do as far as an online store. If you want to “sell” views of what you have, you would be much better off hosting your site at another hosting provider. That is called a self hosted, or WordPress.ORG blog.
I mention this because you would have much more control in enhancing the functionality of your site with plugins, greater e-commerce capabilities, shopping carts etc. The following document gives you more information on the differences between WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG:

Hope that helps!
Dave"

So to put it on more mundane terms it comes down to hosting my own site;

Find a host, perform backups and maintenance myself, or find a security & backups service provider, and install plugins.
It doesn't seems to be possible using Wordpress.com I would have to go with Wordpress.org and do it myself.

Hosting my own site would be like the next step after my works start to generate some income, I'm gonna stick around with the free blog for a while, appreciate the help tho.

Might not be something you want to hear but, Reading that, It seems Wordpress is kicking you in the balls. Try WIX? It's cheaper and you have more freedom to do what you need. I used to have Wordpress for my Art. Then i decided to switch to WIX as wordpress was to much ToS etc.

WithWIX you can also have a blog. And post nudity. You just have to have 18+ pop ups anbd a registration page to confirm their age.

I tho about it and there is way too many limitations with Wordpress, I'm nuking the blog.
Maybe gonna look for a different host where I can share NSFW content and go into more detail about the story.
