Personally, I tend to wait for a game to be completed before touching it. I still follow the game as it's developed through the creator's Patreon and the forum and see for myself how the game is going along. If it seems like there's a good amount of updates that are also consistent in quality, I might check it out before the game is completed.

Episodic games are a different matter. I'll try and check out each episode as they release. But for other games that are just building up to 1.0, I like to hold off. I'm not too big a fan of waiting for the next update to give me the next part of the game. Especially since I don't have as much free time as I used to, I'd rather wait for a game to be complete or nearing completion to play through it than wait for one update, then the next, and so forth.
I did that following every update thing, for a couple months in the beginning, but now I wait for several months or several updates before I revisit a VN/Game... Or at least that is what I'm beginning to do with a lot of these things...

Perhaps a moment may eventually present itself where I may walk away from these things for a long bit, and return at a later time to revisit games I enjoyed during their development... For the moment, I'm adjusting my plans as I go... Who knows that the future might hold...

Pretty much exact same scenario as me. Used to check every update but it slowly just became tedious.

When I first started getting into these types of visual novels/games, DMD was one of the first I experienced... And I really enjoyed it up until it's first chapters cliffhanger ending... When it came to playing the 2nd part, at a later date, my feelings sort of changed about DMD at that moment... Mostly because the 2nd part felt like it was doing a bit of regressing, and back-pedaling, as far as some of the characters personality growth and development... It's at that moment I felt the sting of it milking... The 2nd part doesn't have that same flair and feeling that the first part did... It feels more drawn out and slow moving then before, and that stems a lot from that regressed feeling the primary characters began to have... This isn't the place to review DMD, but lets just say that it felt like the daughter's character wasn't growing and learning from her experiences and the assurances continuously given to her in the 1st part... She felt even more unsure of herself and her sexuality in the beginning of the 2nd part, even after her father reunited with her... And he still needed to constantly reassure her, even though they fully had sex already in part 1... Why do that, unless you plan to milk the story...

In any case, lets not de-rail this particular topic... Feel free not to respond to my thoughts about DMD as it currently stands...

There are a few games I would like to see the end of, but I'm not willing to ignore them until they've reached their final ending... That is just far too long to wait... These things are not like waiting for a new Steven King novel, or new Harry Potter Universe book... You are presented with these stories and games early on, teasing you into wanting more, if you enjoyed it... I don't like to feel strung along, so I don't worry much about waiting an eternity to see if it is gonna be disappointing or wonderful... Because waiting to be disappointed, is just disappointing... :)

I'ld rather just experience it in increments, and if it takes a turn for the worse, then I just stop playing/reading it... No time wasted worrying about it anymore...
i agree with you
but the good thing in DMD that the story not like the others
as i played other games the story looks like porn story
mom fuck son after two minutes of playing i would like to see a good story represent how they ended up love or fuck each other
so DMD i played about 3 versions until i can touch the daughter (its realistic that way)
i will give you an example you know about (((iscstor))))) games
if you ever play one of his games you will find the character is over
over in details the story look like porn video from the internet
why would i play game without story ....?
if they dont understand that yet they should

I usually wait for at least two versions updates before I start playing the game again since usually one update rarely provides enough material for me to be invested into the game.

By the way many adult-games developers are artificially prolonging their games I don't think it is a good idea to start playing a game untill this developer releases at least 4 or 5 versions of his game.

In some cases, it is sometimes because of the nature of these newer Subscription based donation hosting sites... Before, most developers received donations piece mail, using much different systems to what we're seeing now... The whole subscription non-sense started becoming more prevalent with Streamers... One of the biggest reasons for the Streamer boom is due to the introduction of subscription based donations... And the major reason for that is because, in a lot of cases, donators tend to sometimes forget they are subscribed... And when you have lots and lots of donators doing that, the money flows in for longer periods of time... Streamers will tell you, they always prefer subscriptions over one-time donations because of that very reason... So then we have sites like Patreon, who wanted to use that same sort of system for creators of art and other projects... They never intended the adult based industry to jump all over their system as much as it has, hence the back pedaling on their rules we've all recently seen... So now we see developers in this industry trying to jump on that same gold rush band wagon that Streamers have been doing for a while now...

For some developers in this industry, they are trying to take full advantage of that subscription based donation system, to milk donators of as much money as possible, for as long as possible... Either before the donators realize what is really going on, or because people can be dumb animals when it comes to forgetting they are even still subscribed, especially if it's small amounts... And that all adds up when you have lots of people doing that very same thing... The whole subscription style for donations is something I could never get behind, as it is too open to abuse... Noticeable abuse or very well hidden abuse, doesn't matter...

Now don't get me wrong, in a lot of other cases, the development process taking a while, can be a mix match of juggling real life, available money and time, etc... And I've seen some developers do the right thing by their donators... Either by pausing their donation payments when real life takes them away for extended periods, or by offering other incentives to their donators when something like that occurs... Which is an option on Patreon we don't see a lot of developers using, when they give an excuse that they had to go out of town for weeks on end, or had to do this or that for lengthy periods... That should be the very first sign to a donator to cut bait and run, when they don't use that function, but just let it ride out, being paid for doing nothing... I've only seen a small handful of developers ever pausing their donations (it ensures that Patreon does not process payments from donators while paused) when an extended non-development time occurs... Which is sad... And sometimes the developers may not even mention real life taking them away from development, which again just shows bad communication and bad development practices...

So in essence, it's not always a case of artificially prolonging development on purpose... It's something that does occur, but not all developers are guilty of it... And it's not always easy to notice if indeed that is what is occurring or not...

wait for the adult game to complete before play it
dont like when the story about porn only
dont like mind control games or something like it
dont like female protagonist
Yes. Got to be a guy, interesting story and characters, no mind control, rape or any other weirdness, Not even a fan of incest.

That last one is probably because my life growing up is almost like a synopsis for every incest story out there. My Dad died when I was very young, and I grew up as the only male in a house with my Mom and three Sisters. It's the least sexy thing out there, and if anything warped my approach to talking with any women, as all I knew was how to speak to them as family, putting me instantly and always into friend zone. I don't need a fantasy that reminds me of that shit.

I just don't understand how one can ask 20-40$ patreon sponsorship... It's... it's just too much i feel, if people are willing to pay it, then it is what it is. Ive kept mine between 1-10$ sponsor ship. Personally i do not want to milk people but rather give them an opportunity to sponsor me and in a way say "hey thx dude here's something from me for the pleasure of your game i may enjoy"

I totally agree with you on the communication part.

On the contrary, there a select few games I eagerly await to see updates for. I don't even mind replaying content I saw in previous builds. It's because I'm pretty eclectic with my games, they have to have specific themes and these don't come along every day. Currently I'm awaiting updates to Slutcraft, Lust & Power, Rogue-Like, maybe also Orange Trainer. I'm the opposite of OP, except I do think there should be pacing and downtime from the sexual stuff.

No I don't. On the other hand I am getting tired of playing 0.0.1 where mostly nada happens. Shrinking updates are to be expected I suppose, in the Patreon era.

Well i am sure you'll play a game the one month even if it's low on excitement value but high on story/character value?
or...
Must every update have saucy content for you?

To answer your general question, yes. Though I haven't waited for a finished game as of yet, it does bother me when they don't complete the plot. This is somewhat dependent on how interesting the plot was to begin with though. If the game was not especially engaging, it doesn't really matter. So many games out there cut out before actually "delivering the goods" if you catch my drift. Those are the one that bug me the most.

More and more I wish everyone would use version numbers properly. So you know where it stands at least to some degree. I've seen "complete" games on version like 0.17 and almost done games on version 0.0.65 or some such nonsense. For fuck's sake, 1.0 should mean it's complete end-to-end. So if it's almost done, it should be 0.8 or 0.9 roughly. As it is now, you have no fucking clue what most version numbers mean.

LOL i agree vs number for the dev means something for sure but it should be left there. If it says vs1.1 it means there was a change to improve current vs1.0 but the whole 0.0.0.0.33829 is confusing for us users, i understand why it is so for the devs.

What I meant to convey with this comment was I wish I was more patient and waited a few updates before playing.
Oh for sure, I think we've all started a game to "see what it's like" and then get to the end of what's there and be frustrated. To the point though, I don't see why people release games where nothing happens. I guess they are trying to drum up some patreon support or what have you, but give people something to go on.
