I played the game Sexbot recently, it's the only game that came out in 2021 that I can recall playing and thinking "wow this is great". But I could have easily skipped over it, it's about an android so I thought it may have just been about a guy fucking a robot, but it's really good, fetish and design draws you in but the writing keeps you around.

Probably be something like a top 10 poll for 2021, perhaps a september cut off date so games have a chance to make a name for themselves.

So anyone have any stand outs for late 2020 to 2021?

SKA, not really fit as a nukige given its pacing, but few games have such a comprehensive corruption arc.
Hero Party Must Fall, well-written netori with an especially interesting premise.
Home Prisoner, promising NTR game that's impressive for RPGM, but that might also complicate and slow down development.
Corrupted Saviors, probably the most hands-on non-con corruption game ever made, and also has some of the most challenging gameplay. But it comes with a learning cliff.

I've played a few I like and a few more i'd put on a top 10 list after they have cooked for a bit longer.

Artemis One of the best new games. Updates have all had a lot of time and care put into them and are quite lengthy. Both characters and story are fantastic and has the potential to be one of the standout games this year if it carries on how it started last year.

Leap of Faith Probably one of the most emotional games i've ever played adult or not. The storytelling is personal and hits right in the feels. The characters are outstanding and the romance as the payoff to it all feels good.

Sorcerer Probably one of my fave games out since 2020 hit. It's not for everyone but I enjoy the modern fantasy setting and the unique look of some of the love interests from half Titan muscle women (oh yes please) to Ogre women that look like actual Ogres and not made to look "cute". As I said, it's not for everyone. It is well worth looking at though if you don't mind unconventional looking women and violence.

Most of the games on my list came out 2019 or earlier. I mainly enjoy lesbian themed games but good ones have been a bit thin recently.

There is one, Lisa it's called, the dev said would have a couple of lesbian romance options but so far it's been weak for content I would enjoy. It's a shame, it started so strong.

Be wary of incredibly cringe writing though.

I am the MC. I am good at everything, but I don't brag. I follow Teddy Roosevelt's policy, "speak softly and carry a big stick." My calm demeanor and lack of emotions show that I am a competent individual. Magic might be real, but this doesn't surprise me. I see some Asian chick in a kimono fighting ninjas outside my cabin. I will calmly walk out and handle this situation since I am always cool and collected and this girl is probably a LI. Just a typical weekend, all things considered. Apparently, I'm a wizard, Harry. Ain't no big deal. I will master this and get a harem because that's just what I do.

-MC's journal entry, probably.

I feel that's something which pretty much all harem games suffer from, which is probably why I don't tend to like them. There needs to be a narrative reason why all these women throw themselves at the MC and are okay with sharing. How do you solve this problem in a non-creepy way that won't alienate your vanilla audience (so no blackmail, mind control, drugs, etc)? Easy, just make the MC the most attractive and competent man in the world. Which is at best boring, but usually also cringeworthy and sickening.

There are other alternatives. But as with all better solutions they are harder to do.

There used to be something called the Erins that gave awards for best adult interactive fiction.

Yup. I miss those days. Wouldn't, without qualification, call them 'better,' but they certainly had some features that most games these days lack, even if many would say they prefer what comes out these days.

Anyway, lemme see if I can think of some good stuff from this past year.

Sexbot, obviously. I was one of the first backers of that project, so it would be silly not to mention it, no matter how many times it's come up in this thread already.
Five of a Kind is legitimately a pretty great adventure game, and while it's had a fairly slow development cycle since its initial release, what's there at this point is excellent.
Sluttown USA is...well, it's fine. Honestly, it's kinda been a drought of legitimately new titles this year (2020 is really when a bunch of people got started on new shit, for obviously pandemic-related reasons I'd assume). It's got mind control and hacking and a couple of silly minigames, so I qualify it as 'good enough.'
Secrets of Whispering Pines I actually quite like this one. It's very 'fuck the establishment, I'm making a horror-porn game that breaks boundaries,' and I respect the hell out of it for that. Mix Jason, Saw, and I'm sure a bunch of other horror movies I haven't seen, with an incest ren'py mystery game, and this is what you get. Not for everybody, but I really appreciate what they're trying to do.
A Petal Among Thorns Eh, it's fairly traditional stuff, but I think it's pretty great. Father and daughter locked in a cabin, trying to sort out their feelings, interesting sexual roleplay and teasing going on. Definitely looking forward to the next update.
Duality Great art and some reasonably well made time management systems, as well as some interesting writing and character interactions, prevent this game from being too paint-by numbers.

I'm sure some other cool stuff started this year, but I don't really give a shit about Patreon games that don't have the incest tag at this point. If I'm really going to click through an endless set of ren'py slides, a game engine I'm already pretty on the fence about, there better be some taboos getting fucking broken. Otherwise, I feel like this year I saw more interesting game ideas get abandoned or finished in a rush than new games get started.
