VN - Ren'Py - It Was Raining That Night [v0.8] [VeronicaPerv]

Dialogue frequently sounds off. So far the story is not particularly interesting.

The female character models are great. However, after years of development there's barely any sex content...and what's there is mostly a tease.

And the MC's lip damage is so gross it deserves its own section. Its in half of the game so far and in half the screens. And its disgusting. Couldn't he just have a nice forehead/arm scar like a normal character? Yeesh! Something to think about since the hair is getting remade anyway...

The plot could have been interesting, but its not well written. The plot is littered with time jumps, and the plot development is too haste. Its hard to take it seriously when the MC marries a character they just met (and you are forced to) within 15 minutes of playing the game, after they have a single date.

All of the female characters are virgins or virgin adjacent (had sex 1x to have a kid decades ago) who crave the MC immediately, including a lesbian. Sure. The writing itself is also on the cheesy end.

There are are also only about half a dozen sex scenes. Most of the gallery scenes are the NPCs dreaming about the MC

It's an interesting story but I can't shake the feeling it's trying to be more clever than it is.

I think part of the issue is the story seems to be happening in spite of the MC, which is always a worrying thing for a game. That's not to say the MC needs to be in every scene but at times it seems the majority of the game plays out like things would happen the same whether the MC was part of it or not. There's a whole corruption thing going on which seems to be the main focus of the game but really the MC's just a bit part of it all. The game TRIES to make the MC more engrained but even that has issues. The LI is incredibly forceful with her attraction to him to the point it feels forced. Like serious yandere vibes with little explanation to it. She's obviously smart beautiful and there's no indication she's led a sheltered life but as soon as she sees the MC she's like "you're mine now". What's worse is other characters are introduced later which are more interesting

It could be an interesting game, perhaps I'm being a bit too negative. Visually it looks fine but there are plot points which play out and I just don't care about. the MC loses their memory and then an old flame of some sort is introduced and really do we need her? We've already got like 3 plates spinning in terms of girls, it would be better to just focus on them. And what's worse is the game doesn't give you a lot to go on in regards to how you should care about them. The girl you're married to seems like an after though, why even bother? It's all so weird and it seems to get weirder the more you dig into it.

This is the first time I've played game with such exquiste storyline, fabulous characters, don't get me started on the affection between the married couple. Left me wanting more the script. I hope the next release of this is soon and a lengthy one at it. MUCH LOVE TO THE TEAM

This is a longer one. I like it, so I'm more critical, and as usual I'm spoiler heavy, so if you want the basics the first and last paragraphs are my thoughts and tl;dr, respectively.

Despite how my review might end up sounding, this game is an absolute breath of fresh air on this site. It's NOT a dumb incest game where MC returns home after X years to screw his family. It's NOT a boring open/linear sandbox that has a day/night cycle, crafting, grinding, etc before making a good or interesting game. It's NOT MC going to college to teach or play a sport with no story. Unfortunately it does sort of fall under the 4th and 5th banners of overused story tropes of Corporate espionage/mafia story and amnesia. But it does it in a bit of a different way. So I can forgive it. The only annoying parts of this are the fuck-boy tik tok look of MC, and the speed at which the story happens. (Which, I guess, follows the dangling keys nature of tik tok, so it's morbidly thematic? lol) And this is all based off what little I remember about this, so who knows, maybe I disliked or liked more. I'm also not one of those people that drool, captivated by the fact a character has red hair or loosely based off some pornstar. So, that overused gem isn't a selling point for me. But the basic synopsis of this is MC joins a gang, falls in love with the boss' daughter(rather fast), they get attacked by a rival gang, and then MC gets amnesia. Which is weird, giving the player character amnesia long after they start playing. But I'll get into the oddities later. What you SHOULD take away from this is, this is better than 90% of the boring lazy trash on this site. Give it a playthrough.

I do wanna say, this starts with the terrible "Heh. Yup, that's me, you're probably wondering how I got here." Dead narration trope. That was dead in the 90s, it's 2023. Just saying. But anyway, you play as MC Fish. Youtube prankster, Tik Tok autist, bottom rung mafia goon. Through sheer dumb luck, after getting kicked out of one mafia family for screwing the don's wife. Because you certainly wouldn't be killed for such a thing. Even IF the woman begs him not to, ESPECIALLY if, even. So the first thing Mr. B does is wheel out his wife to show MC her ass, and she asks for MC to take her out alone. Which gives a path altering prompt: Carol or Lexi. I choose the Lexi path every time because she has a more appealing personality than any other female in this, sadly. Although an Ice Queen that gets buttered up by two compliments is a bit more sitcom than mafia story. (even if "Her expression screams attitude" is just a DAZ model with raised eyebrows) I will also say that any time I have the misfortune of hearing MC try to flirt, I want him to get hit in the face. She also calls him on his shit right away with the womanizer comment. And yet again, DAZ fight scenes are never good, MC's slap fight with Rick is all the proof in the world. Then Lexi goads Mr. B to hire MC based on flirty comments and fracturing someone's skull. I will go back to see what happens in Carol's route, but it's probably something similar. More than likely "I totally didn't flirt with him, he's great at taking me shopping, hire him."

This is immediately followed by Emma, the sheltered daughter of the boss, completely infatuated by MC solely based on looks, "cleverly" getting MC to take her shopping. She has bad taste, but look at her environment. Upon getting there, she immediately gets taken hostage by someone everyone should have warned her about. And MC would have prevented if he did his job and guarded Emma. While this part gives emma a hero complex towards MC, and I don't want to get into how fast and contrived it is. It also highlights the issue of stiff or less than stellar English. Lots of phrases that aren't quite right, few to no contractions in casual speech, and some tensing issues sprinkled in. It's close enough to fool non-English speakers, but jarring enough to be distracting. Especially during this "emotional" moment, stiff dialogue just kinda comes across as funny. All leading to Emma continuing this "He's hot, I love him, give him to me." thing. So Mr. B hires a kid suspected of screwing someones wife to look after his sheltered daughter. Smart. They eventually get married to avoid sex out of wedlock? I guess. And he constantly lies about screwing Fazio's wife. (If you choose that he did it, and it's a sex game, why wouldn't you?) My issues with the romance are exacerbated by the time skips. Don't get me wrong, I hate when games have you playing through every second of every day. But cutting to black with a time skip and getting no relationship building to learn about the characters is kinda a slap in the face. All you ever learn about Emma is she's attracted to MC and is possessive. Which I hope provides drama later on, but that's never the case, sadly.

This has a lot of marriage talk and kinda feels like propaganda for it, which I hope fades away, but I just wanted to note that it talks about it a lot. This then leads to "The accident." MC and Emma are run off the road on a motorcycle. They're hit by an armored truck while they're on a bike. Really, the story should have ended, bike accidents are fatal at much lower speeds but SUSPEND YOUR DISBELIEF. This is when MC gets amnesia. Giving the player character amnesia and NOT taking away everything the player is familiar with is frustrating and shatters any "immersion" someone might have had. (Even though this is clearly about Fish, not a self insert.) To give MC amnesia and everyone tell him whats going on, and you, the player, knowing all the things gets frustrating. Because the MC acts completely different from how the player wants. MC forgets Emma, which is fine, she's hardly a character. All she's done is tell MC she loves him and convince him to date and marry her. Soon after, you meet Megan, sort of. She does the SAME "YEP THAT'S ME" INTRO. ugh. And her first introduction to MC is surgery and an erection. Fun. Ep. 2 is short and nothing outside of the amnesia and Mr. B and the mafia boys saying a bunch of trailed off sentences about some family that they won't name. WE DON'T KNOW THIS WORLD, TELLING US THE NAME WON'T AFFECT THE STORY. Aside from that all that happens is MC calling, and reuniting with, Mrs. Fazio.

It flashes back to when MC was in the Fazio family. The FIRST thing that's said is he's the most sought after name in the city. When? No one in the Benett family had hear of him and he's never done anything of note. He then acts like Agent 47 as if he's some badass and earlier acts like a lady killer. But one of his first lines was "Is this what a blowjob feels like?" You have to make up your mind on this character, not that I like either version of him. Pick a lane, scrappy virgin mobster, or agent 47 lady killer. And this section has worse English too, MC is trying to be professional and cordial, but even that's not gonna be as stiff as some of the things he says. And Lexi crying over MC is nonsensical as she's had less contact with him than Emma, and we've literally seen none of that outside the first date. And lines also get mixed up between Georgina and Lexi too. I don't know how or why, but it feels like a quality dip, in terms of dialogue, happens around here. Even if there's "finally" a sex scene around this point. Not that I care about them, but most others will. At this point about FOUR women are obsessed with MC for no reason. Analia was a bored horny housewife and just wanted sex, but suddenly is willing to run away with a fling. Lexi got two compliments and wants to keep MC for herself. Megan will probably be in love with him after two days. Emma has already been an infatuated problem. And I'm sure Carol's path would be no better. There's also this harem facilitating speech that Analia gives right after a big cliff hanger so there's no way Emma's jealousy, the only possible source of interest, won't be a thing.

So much after this point feels retconned and cheap. Suddenly MC is rambo and prepared for everything. Almost as if a bunch of insecure guys lashed out about an MC that doesn't act "alpha" enough for their timid hearts. Hm. He also seems to know what everyone's thinking and the perfect things to do after chapter 4. All the mystique and decent storytelling disappears here and It makes me sad. THEN DEVELOPER NOTE: "The protagonist's hairstyle has changed." Commit to SOMETHING. For your own sake if nothing else. I hated the dumb fuckboi style, but a change with just a developer note is frustratingly lazy. He even goes back to the virgin ruffian telling the doctor he's worried because his penis got hard. Seriously?Leading up to another cliffhanger. I dunno, I think I'm disillusioned by this playthrough.

To sum it all up, the English starts fine then gets distractingly bad. The UI/UX is stock renpy. The art is good, for the most part. The guys all look like they're made of clay and it's a little sterile, but it's good. The dialogue would be rated higher if it was consistent. Even up to end of content it feels like there's no concrete personality for MC and he swaps back and forth too much. The story is alright. I think too many truth bombs and surprise twists happen, but I'm enjoying it. If this customizes the UI, gets an editor for the English, and decide what they wanna do with MC this would be one of my favorites.

I have a bit of a soft spot for mafia related games, couple that with the fact that some of these models are insane in terms of hotness it makes for a good recipe.

The story itself is good, it has it's bright spots as well as some cons but I overall enjoyed what I've seen thus far. What needed to happen was the backstory with Analia and MC, we got some of that I just wish that it was fleshed out a little more. I didn't see or get any hint that they had those kinds of feelings for one another. I would've liked if actual feelings were developed more between the two versus feel that this was just a standard fling by a horny guy giving into temptation with a lonely housewife.

Fast forward to the present when waking up from his coma the now MC feels those "feelings" for Analia all of a sudden. The he have them all along? And suppressed them? I know that has to be attributed to the motorcycle accident but that's more reason why that backstory needed to be elaborated on a bit more. Regarding the amnesia storyline, it's always a 50-50 trope with me in games but it still works so far. Carol is the cream of the crop for me, the problem with pursing her is that you're going to look like a total dick shagging her while your wife is still unconscious. In fact it's even worse now that Bennett got killed, but as I said she's the main course from me and the heart wants what the heart wants or in this case the dick.

I do like Emma's character but the whole problem for her, unfortunately, was that we jumped the gun by marrying her and even though it was necessary we left A LOT of good fish in the sea. While I wanted the character be faithful-ish, I want the interactions with Carol, Lexi, Analia and Megan much more.

In the future I hope to see a angrier, ruthless, more bad ass side of the MC. Someone tried to off you and your wife, the time for Mr. Nice Guy has passed. "Let the bodies hit the floor".

In closing the game isn't perfect but I appreciate it, super hot thick models getting dicked down was eventually going to win me over. I do wonder what sort of state Emma will be in once she wakes up and will the MC been have clapped her mom's cheeks by then, I guess we'll see.

Why on gods green earth do creators keep using this goofy looking dude as the MC is beyond me anytime I see this guy as the MC it kills the game for me. Can we atleast make a MC that looks like he can actually pull hot women ENOUGH IS ENOUGH creators stop using this guy in your games! But besides that women renders look decent story is half way decent worth giving it a shot.

Characters look good and most of them are likeable.

I do love a mafia themed story, but the plot feels rushed and sometimes illogical: the new guy moves in and is immediately assigned as the Don's daughter's bodyguard. When a traitor was at the mercy of Elite ranked operative, the traitor was let off with a mere slap on the wrist, etc.

It is pretty much a kinetic novel due to the way that the relationship is forced on the MC. The choice making happens very rarely.

I would say that 3 out 5 stars is a fair rating. The game is good way to pass your time, but don't expect the story to be anything memorable.

    Pros:
    Mrs. Bennett
    Models
    Renders
    Mafia themed story

    Cons:
    Amnesia storyline

This Dev always has hot models involved in his or should I say their stories. The thought of creeping around with a mob bosses wife is freaking hot but of course dangerous. The motorcycle accident was a bummer but not really in a bad way, as I now have an excuse to play the fields. Good stuff.

    Review of version 0.5

Good story about a love between a war with mafia's families. The story is still in early stages and this is a VN more focus on the story, so don't expect a lot of sexual content. But the scenes that are there are really great and hot.

The models are all beautifull and with well crafted personalities and storylines. Choices are meaningful and branch the story in different routes (and girls). A great merit to me is how MC's relationship with his wife is showed and builded in a very touch and lovely way without take to much time. A proof of good writing skills.

Good story line and good renders, serveral different paths which means multiple game plays, i'm enjoying this vn so far, i have high hopes for this vn, i wish to see it do well.
i wish you could name saves, so i could easily tell the difference between play throughs.

The women are pretty enough, even though usually with oversized boobs.

The renders quality is passable, compositions are good, animations are not bad.

The pacing is OK, the dialogs are generally not bad.

The characters are likeable and interesting.

The story would be interesting, at least the idea seems to be intriguing. But many details are not veritable. logically and psychologically, ranging from just stupid to quite nonsensical. For instance, imagine that you are a top officer in a crime family (aka mafia), and a guy stole from you, betrayed you (you have no idea why) and escaped, and eventually you've found him. You want to take him in and interrogate him, e.g. to learn who were his accomplices and what are they planning next. He doesn't cooperate, instead he fights and tries to stab you with a knife. When you overpower him, would you just leave, saying "Let's talk tomorrow"? I remind you, you don't know his motives, you don't know his accomplices (who are alerted now that you found him), so how do you know that he will come to you tomorrow? (Not mentioning that he stole from your mafia and tried to stab you... and you just let him go?)

And everybody else behaves like that, like in a really bad anime or comic book: the daughter, the father, MC, etc, as if they have no common sense, no life experience, or maybe someone amputated their brains.

Another example: the dress would be ruined by riding the bike, so why don't you get a cab?

All the story is built of strange and stupid decisions. That ruins much of the experience, especially when it's (almost) a kinetic novel.

I would give it 4 stars at least, if not the badly conceived story.

I don't typically pick up stories early in their development. I prefer to wait and make sure that the developer is able to see the project through and have more content to enjoy. As a writer, I am always looking for ideas and inspiration for the short stories I write. When a colleague suggested this VN, I gave it a look. I enjoy adult visual novels greatly. I avoid certain aspects of the genre such as Sandbox titles and pretty much anything done in RPGM, but I was pleasantly surprised to find this story extremely compelling thus far.

The story follows a young MC who has become a body guard within the "Bennette" family, a mafia/mob family that lives by a noble moral code. The mafia trope isn't anything new but the way VeronicaPerv presents the story is, so lets get down to it.

The story begins with the MC who is brought into the Bennette Family by his best friend who is the left hand man for the families Patriarch Mr. B. The MC quickly catches the eye of Mr. B's Daughter Emma and a romance ensues. A series of events occur that puts the family and the MC in turmoil and the nobody is ever the same.

Right from the beginning I was drawn into the story and quickly found myself vested in the MC and Emma. The story has a strong set of supporting characters that keep the flow of the story moving in the right direction. VeronicaPerv has done her homework and the writing is fantastic. She doesn't spend to much time on one scene which immerses you in the story and keeps you hooked to see what happens next. Like any great book, It Was Raining That Night does a fantastic job of taking hold of you and not letting go. The dialog isn't too long and the characters do not are not mired in redundant conversation.

For those of you looking for alot of choices and a huge branching story arc, I hate to disappoint you. There are very few choices to be made in the story at this point as the story is more linear and kinetic. Personally I absolutely love this! I get to see the story unfold as VeronicaPerv envisions it. Like a good book, the story flows and the lack of choices keeps the story pointed in the right direction. I have always stated that the more choices we have, the more the developer is likely to lose focus on the true scope of the story. Thank You VeronicaPerv for doing that.

The visuals in the story are "ok". I wish that I could say the quality of the rendering was as good as the story itself but it really isn't. There are times when the scenes are washed out and almost blurry. The character renders could seriously use an overhaul especially in the face. Their eyes in particular really need work. The Character Carol appears to have a cats eyes in many scenes and the MC (I named him Eric) constantly appears as though he is about to cry. Not all of the renders are bad but you can see alot of inconsistency from scene to scene. For folks that use a PC, the download is currently at around 500 Mb. This makes for fast downloads and a small footprint on the hard drive but you can see it in the quality of the renders.

I am giving It Was Raining That Night 4 stars. Honestly it is worthy of 5 but the visuals hurt the overall immersion. It is my hope that Veronica will do a remaster at some point or at very least improve the quality of the renders. If she does that she will have the perfect project.

If you haven't downloaded this story yet, please do so. It is a little short but I promise that you will not be disappointed.

It's a half like and half dislike for me.
    +The writing is pretty good.
    +Renders aint bad either.
    +Characters are ok I guess.

-This goes with any VN I play, I can't stand being forced into relationships... I like having choices
especially with a character I dislike. Also goes without saying but when you start like that it's hard to care when
certain things happen if you get me.
-Speaking of characters, there's a few here I dislike but some are ok as I stated.(personal taste)
-There's a few scenes I just thought didn't fit in certain times.

    So it's a mixed bag... 3 stars.

I actually didn't expect to like this game after finishing playing it even though there are lots of things in it that I didn't enjoy. Let's talk about them first. The animation and renders are not that good and except Lexi, I found all the other character models to be just average. There are very little decision making choices too. You just go with the flow of the story and the pacing was all over the place. The plot isn't anything special and we have seen this type of setup before but there were some moments that caught me off guard tho.

Except these, I liked the story as it did evoke emotions from me throughout playing it as well as some other characters.

    [v0.3]
I have to be honest here, i was way too hesitant to try another game from Deafpervs due to some obvious reasons like if i remember correctly his another vn was total disappointment for me. I was expecting this to be his half hearted effort to make it up after that fuck up; but I swear i don't know why but i feel strangely satisfied to be proven wrong.

Roller-coaster of a ride this was. Started with a bang like no other vn out there or which i played, something refreshing to see when a girl is trying to hit on mc rather than mc himself, she experienced what people call that, oh yeah 'love at first sight'... And why not she was clear in what she wanted and desired so was mc, hesitant a bit at the start but that's expected. I liked her character, Emma.

Perfect male friend who respects your comfort space, is there whenever you need him, ready to sacrifice whatever he can just for that friendship, and vice versa.

Another little thing which i liked here was light hearted humor even from dare i say father in law. Were clever & to the point.

I literally felt helpless when he was lying in the hospital bed, unconscious and all that secrecy behind health condition of Emma wasn't helping either, i just skipped every renders which didn't had them after accident because i wanted to know are they alive and alright, am i going to find that out in this episode itself or is that going to be worst cliffhanger ever. Anxiety man, worst feeling that is. Popped some benzoD just in case.

Writing and story direction were pretty impressive, not many options to choose from so might come later updates, great renders and animations, i always thought Deafpervs doing injustice to himself more than anyone. Can't wait man.
Little warning for you guys in disguise of friendly reminder, i mean I'm one kind soul, Emma better be OK or else I'm going to see you in hell and that meeting won't be as pretty as Emma.

I tried this game for the first time today. I'm gonna say this was much better than their other game. The story is great and it's entertaining. The characters are pretty likable. The women are hot and sexy especially Analia, Carol and Lexi. The animations are great as well. Looking forward to more content soon!

This was kinetical there is one choice you can make that will branch the story. Even though there is not that much difference in both paths. You can choose between Lexi and Carol that's it. But the story is good and girls are beautiful. It's short. As long as the story is good I don't worry about the kinetical part. Writing is not bad. But this not the Dev's main game. But this one is surely worth playing. If you are looking for good story game try this. That being said story is not fresh we have seen this kinda plot in many movies. But it's fresh in the game category. Looking forward to next updates

Let me start with one thing. A rating of three is not a bad game for me.
It is either an average game or a game with serious flaws but with potential to be really good.
For me, giving a game that you like five stars just because you like it, while completely ignoring the weaknesses or even if there is barely enough game to make any form of judgement; anything like that is simply wrong.

That's why, in all fairness, even though I like it, I can't give the game more than 3 stars.
The artwork for the game is okay, the models are mostly fine, if nothing sensational.
The story isn't anything special, but that doesn't matter if it is done well.
In this case here, however, the writing has significant flaws.
It's never unreadable, but there are way too many typos, especially since running the text through spellchecker could get rid of most of them.
There are a lot of very awkward sentences, some are just plain and simple wrong.
Especially the dialogue and thoughts of the characters are way too simple, often they seem outright childish.

Another problem is the pacing, while on one hand we have lots of dialogue that seems too extensive, on the other hand the story just rushes along, so much so that I felt left behind at times. That doesn't mean I don't understand what's happening, I think it is happening too fast or with not enough explanation for WHY and HOW it is happening.

Okay, that was a lot of criticism, but it's not a bad game. It could be a great game, if the flaws were fixed.

The simplest one to fix is the typos. Just run a spellcheck and have someone who does alright with grammar read through the result to fix instances where a similar sounding word is used, that means something completely different.
The writing is harder to fix, but in their other game the devs seem to handle it much better, so maybe work together on the writing or whoever is editing "Seducing the devil" should be asked to do the same here.

As for pacing, I don't know, for me this also shouldn't be that hard. Read through the game as if it wasn't yours, and whenever it seems to rush or to stall, change it. Don't be afraid to rework the timeline of events, or at least show more of why and how things are developing like this.
Right now, for example, the main love story seems completely like Emma is an infatuated teenager. There's simply no reason why she should love the MC, apart from initially finding him cute and nice. And the MC on the other hand has no reason to love Emma, it seems way more as if he feels it is his duty to love her, due to her feelings appearing to be so strong (which is ironic, because like I wrote it seems more like infatuation than real love from her).

This game has potential, I will definitely check out the next few versions to see if it uses that potential to grow.

Interesting story with an intriguing plot
Great renders with hot models the animations are smooth too
    Good writing so it's engaging

All in all it's has great potential to be a great VN with a good story and something to look forward to see how the plot unravels
Goodluck dev keep up the good work.
