Western devs focused on patreon often releases small patches that keeps their post floating up on the trending page, as compared to Japanese devs that are pretty much non-existent here and release mostly full games just once.
I personally prefer Japanese games because of their superior gameplay but it is also hard to put in a tag here to sift the trash ones from the gold. People whine about any bits of grind these days but they forget we are playing GAMES not watching slideshows.
Many westerns games below 4 stars are quick flaps or kinetic novels in chapters, though that doesn't mean highly rated ones have good gameplay, some get high ratings from just high quality CG with a simple plot.
The format of constant release just skewers the eye count and perceived popularity, but it doesn't indicate quality. In fact, for english stuff I tend to look for games that have been around for awhile. Stuff like Free cities and incubus hasn't been updated for years, but they remain one of the best english text gameplay loop management games around to this day.
