Try deleting your game files and reinstalling from scratch again
It seems like corrupt code to me.
Also, what game are you experiencing this problem in? It might not hurt to post this issue in the game thread to see if other members of the community playing the game have experienced the same issue and what resolution they can provide to help rectify the problem.

It can't be, at least not otherwise than manually. Corrupted rpyc file wouldn't load, and corrupted rpy file wouldn't be read by Python interpreter.
What's strange with the issue he get is that it happen in the core code.
Would it be in the game code, I would say that the version of Ren'Py isn't the one used to to create the game. But the core can't have some code incompatible with itself. At least not unless OP tried to tweak it.

New joiplay and Renpy plugin breaking games left and right.
1...Void's Calling. Episode 1 works fine but Episode 2 doesn't even start. I played the ep 2 before it's final
update on older version joiplay and it ran fine.
2...My Cute roommate 2. Again same problem game doesn't even start but I played the the previous version of the game on older version of joiplay and it ran fine.( Joiplay discord help section says I need to manually recompile the game scripts to play the game on the new version)
3...The Godson Remake. The current version of the game I played on the previous version of the joiplay and it works but in the new version the games open but I can't select anything, touch simply doesn't work, same goes for the virtual gamepad.
4...Money or Morals. Again same issue played the previous version but the the newer one don't work anymore on the new joiplay.
Their is more games that had a issue. Their is also some save transfer bug,softkey not visible bug ( you couldn't rename your character), and some others bugs as well.
