With the Refrain demo being out and no updates for nearly a year, does this mean that the Refrain "demo" is actually the last update? Or does this mean just a hold on updates until JPDE 2 is finished? I am under the assumption that demo means just a trial version.

i think that refrain is put on hold while they finish babelomania seeing as its their "first" big game
then if they haven't sorted out the sprite situation with jpde 2 they'll probably work on refrain if they do have the sprites by then it might be done between chapters
so if i had to guest it will most likely take at least another 6 months.
but they are dating siming jpde so they may work on it earlier as well

Ah gotcha, thank you for all the information. Could you clarify on what is going on with the sprites on JPDE2?
Also, what is your source for these?
(I'm not accusing you of making up information but I'd like to be able to be up to date on the news as well.)

nah your good so basically they had a system in place for how sprites were made (if you want the full info its on their patreon)
and have lost some of the designs so in the meantime are working to dating sim the game with the models they have

i will say to that when it comes to the part about babelomania that is just my assumption as due to being a small studio they'd probably put their primary effort onto their first big game that will release on steam

edit: so not even a couple days after i wrote this they released their dating sim jpde 2 version test so there is a chance they work on the refrain version given we still have a fair bit of time before babelomania comes out

theoretically it's basically done, but there's a rework in progress that'll overhaul pretty much everything: dialog is being expanded, combat and exploration being reworked; from the sound of things, just about every aspect is getting changes. however, that's just judging by the changelogs; there's been zero updates in a year, so my guess is that the rework was abandoned in favor of new projects because reworks don't bring in as much money.

really disappointing, because i never finished it but i'm not going to pick it back up while there's a rework on the way. i'm not going to play the sequel before the first game is finished, so at this rate it seems like i'll never be playing either one.
