Speaking about death, there a couple characters that can perma death The Mc (get returned to the title screen)

I believe Vaila said Rousou could off us permanently, but I don't recall specifically

there's nothing to do in there, both just have some empty event triggers, but they're registered as areas in the game files and you can visit them using mtool. I'm pretty sure they're both just completely black though. if memory serves the sewers have an image or two?

there's an unused (so far) woman that appears both at the sewers in the hotel, below and to the left of the school by the river, the hidden shrine, the inaccessible maze, and there might be one or two more that I'm forgetting. she also has a cool knife for you!

Historically, has it been okay to transfer saves for new version release? I can't remember.

Teary did say (in the poll post about skipping to 0.1), that old saves would possibly cause issues; all the new stuff being added and code being changed and whatnot. I'm not entirely sure and can't talk on behalf of teary, but I would guess 0.098 might be okay with old saves.

It’s not any character specifically mentioned in the past that do it in this update… Queen Blossom is one of the characters that can perma kill the MC
