Per Hum's introductory dialogue, it is hinted that Incubi feed off dreams rather than physical essences as opposed to Succubi, so they are considered separate species unlike some real-world interpretations of them as male/female members of the same race.

I was able to trigger the event too, but the only insanity related event I've done before was the "Person" interaction in Hotel Vania iirc.

Gonna agree with almost all your theories cuz I'm biased (been thinking about this throughout last year) lol, this update is an outright declaration of the fact that Dilan isn't the first of his kind, that they've been known to the Council for a while now.
Maybe there is something about agglomorate essences that prevents another from integrating it readily, but the Walter cutscene seems to imply that Dilan was canonically resisting Bonnie/Katja's influence, and it was only after being pushed to his limits that Katja was finally "let in," as after this point Dilan automatically unlocks Frost magic.

It'd make sense if Svelva was actually responsible for making Bonnie into an agglomorate, too, since Katja makes statements openly resenting Svelva near the end of the Purplehead possession. If Svelva is known for being a master manipulator, the previous dream cutscenes would imply he tricked Katja into becoming his friend only to meddle with her soul.
I almost fully agree with this theory. But a little thing i would like to add is that i think that Dilan wasnt able to resist Bonnie/Katja's influence that well since we have seen him repeatedly enter hotel vania in a trance like state and even lose control of his body on times. IIRC from one of the Hum events he places a seal on your mind wich stabilizes the energy in your body and prevents the body takeover shenigans for a while untill walter pops a blood bullet straight through your skull at the exact place where Hum placed the seal. Just before Hum places that seal we get a "flashback" about katja in the own path so my guess is that katja was almost ready to take over Dilan's body but Hum specifically prevented it and then that dimwit of a Walter accidently ruins the whole thing allowing a full takeover. If you look in the mirror after that event you can even see Katja take over for a little bit and say : "that is you Dilan" while smiling into the mirror.

in the warm path Bonnie has let Dilan wake up next to her multiple times. Probably rewiring his body and soul from the outside. And only being able to make that final adjustment after the seal gets broken. Allowing her to control him. Bonnie is probably quite crafty. If you win against her you take a bit of her essence and if you lose she takes some of yours. Allowing a connection to form between the two.

So to me it looks kind of like this. Cold path : Katja full takeover. (i still have to play it when it gets fixed and have only looked at other people their comments and ingame images etc) Warm path : Bonnie takeover. My own path: A variation on the katja path but with some more focus on your own essence and will (specifically nalid i think).

Whatever path you take, some outside force is trying to wrestle for dominance in your body and be the controlling host for whatever plan they have. Katja will probably have some revenge plan they wanna commit. Maby she wants revenge against Svelva or even fight against bonnie. It could be that Bonnie is just Katjas original body but filled with some kind of different soul by Svelva's doing since Katja and Bonnie clearly are 2 different people but look oh so very similar. Bonnie i genuinely have no clue what her reason for wanting to take over another soul agglomorate is. Maby making a bodyhop to a new identity? Your guess is as good as mine.

The real bit of lore that i cant wrap my head around yet is how did Katja insert her essence in Dilans being? Since we have seen her influence Dilan from wayyyy back at the Ayleen update and probably even before the katalist ritual by Vaila. She probably has some kind of past with Dilan. Or has had her essence trapped in that gem that dilan has in his inventory that he and i quote "found in the attic years ago"

I'm pretty sure you have to interact with the book above the summoning circle first. Then you interact with the dead guy.

Edit: I looked with mtool and used an earlier save to redo it. I interact with the corpse first (Dilan realizes him as the ferryman), then the book, then the second interaction onwards on the corpse it happens.

My bad, it doesn't require insanity or any related variable to it. It gives some. Specifically +1 to Cracks (var 2801) and "SR DeepEnd" (var 2813) variables.
I think i might have done something wrong then since Dilan doesnt recognize him as the ferryman for me. So you probably have to do something before getting there to trigger that specific event? Since i did exactly that interact with the corpse then the book and then the corpse again.

There's also the hella weird "Prison of Futility" segment where you also end up in Hotel Vania. There's definitely something that draws him there in his subconscious.

There is definently something off about the hotel itself in the first place. Its been built in a sketchy way. Like according to the news papers at sereneta's place its funding for the project has been backed by the queen of succubi herself. This means the place is a point of interest for one of the most powerful non deities we know. Margo is the first of her line to own a hotel. Margo's room is really off putting with the fact that you cant move past a certain door. Just like how it used to be with the principal aka some mind control compulsion stuff. Also Hum has a specific interest in the hotel and is under a watchfull eye by margo and her "butler" who according to Hum we might have encounterd already. (maby thats the identity of the "person". events) But yeah future updates will probably delve into this plot more.

You might've already did the event then. I just loaded a save at the start and used mtool to go to it. It worked. I might've been wrong about the book too, as this time I just interacted with the corpse and it worked.

Wasn't he the merchant that was there next to Guard Grog?
Yes. My bad, I said the ferryman but I was a bit tired. He is (was) the merchant near the ferryman.

Feels weird replying to myself but wanted to add a little more.

I wonder if the underilined name (_____) is actually a hint to who they are, 5 letter name, or it's just supposed to be read as blank.

That chick also appears under the Mortorium (did I spell that right?) in a place called something like "_____'s Shrine". So at the very least she's definitely meant to be *somebody* and not just a one-off creepy encounter.

Maybe the files have her somewhere, too lazy to check.

The labyrinth has a bunch of ghosts speaking Japanese but IIRC they don't say anything important.

Interesting! I've never seen that shrine before.
