I used the cube to teleport out. Make sure you have a place saved in the town/school in case you get stuck during the day.

I had an issue like this when speaking to the rich looking coin pixie, just for testing I restarted the game, entered fights, saved, nothing was working, she was still there, in the fucking middle of the screen xd

You can hit the H key and then debug and it usually gets rid of stuck portraits for me.
