I thought Verl was really cool although yet another being inside MC's head is a bit excessive.Alright, finally finished the update. Here we go with some long-winded rambles:
Felt like pulling teeth trying to see any of the new sexual content in this update....
As far as I could tell there's no stare or kneel options for any of the new enemies and I was not able to access any H-content for any of the new generic mobs in the fairy area except the most common fairy who uses the chain.
Which sucks because looking through the CG's there's definitely pictures there....the mobs just won't use H-attacks.
I loved Blossy's meager content so I was really excited to see what Teary would do with the fairies and....what a disappointment.
Getting drunk on their pollen and getting ravished by them would be super hot....but instead it's just used as a generic debuff here...what a waste.
The Queen is really the only one who has any h-content and...that's pretty disappointing too since these scenes are all pretty short and there's no changes if you revisit the Queen and lose to her again. So many missed opportunities.
I like the concept of Verl and the Silent Hill-esque design is dope (I love weird shit like that) but she is just incredibly annoying, overlaying the screen frequently, even in the middle of ongoing scenes with other characters and having boring h-scenes where I often couldn't even tell what was happening due to the flashing overlay and poor visual readability.
Then there's a story scene and as far as I can tell the character just permanently disappears and can no longer be interacted with, which on the one hand was a relief since it stopped the incessant interruptions while I tried to do literally anything but I still would've liked to be able to interact with the character on my own time.
If I had to recommend a (mechanical) redesign for this enemy I'd tell Teary to look at Mr Shakedown from Yakuza 0 as inspiration, since that enemy has a similar purpose (very strong enemy that will steal all your money if he defeats you), the difference however is Mr Shakedown is slow and easily avoidable if you're not careless but he carries a lot of money which encourages the player to risk fighting him to take it.
Peng is hot but...it's pretty difficult to see her scenes. Like most enemies in this update she generally prioritizes killing you via damage and no matter how many times I purposely lost to her no stare or kneel options appeared (the game files have at least 2 different h-scenes I wasn't able to trigger).
Also, there's way too many new enemies that can just enable a 99% shield or dodge every attack at a whim and for as long as they want which as far as I can tell, makes them practically invincible. Very frustrating.
Special mention to the fairy that does very little damage to you but frequently perma-drains your stats while being completely impervious to damage that somehow managed to get on the same open world square that I was on which made any successful escape attempt immediately re-enter combat with her resulting in a long drawn out combat encounter that stole a lot of stats off me.
And the fairy forest...first I'd have enemies that I could easily dispatch solo become damage sponges after the companions join because of some awful balancing (do they multiple enemy hp and dmg by how many people are in your party???) but then on top of that there's a million fucking enemies who will all chase you through this same-y forest where you have no idea where to go and no idea where you can or can't actually walk.
Navigating through that fucking forest most times just had me holding down the mouse button and seeing if the MC could somehow manage to navigate through an area that appeared completely inaccessible.
In conclusion, there's a lot of parts in this update that in my opinion just don't work well mechanically and should be overhauled.
Of course the amount of time required to do an actual overhaul for....basically the entire update would be crazy so...I think best case scenario is this will probably stay as is.
Honestly, to me, the appeal of this game is its h-scenes and trying to get the MC a GF...so I was never really gonna love an update that was primarily focused on combat and story development, no matter how good it was....
I hope with this Teary can take a break from furthering the main story and adding new characters and instead focus on all the characters who are already in the game and lacking content.
Of course the 0.1 overhaul is up next which sounds like the perfect storm for more indefinite development hell so we'll see how that goes....hopefully a bit smoother than this time, but who knows.
My biggest highlight of this update was definitely the tone and atmosphere. The strange whistling in the forest, arriving in Fair Poison followed by the reveal in Doli's house and then being constantly hounded by Verl made it a great experience for me.
It does seem exceedingly difficult to trigger H-content I also agree.
