Keeping saves on a new pc

I am building a new pc soon and I want to bring my games and saves into the new pc. Games themselves are not an issue. Some of the games store the saves inside the game folder, so that's also not an issue. What folders should I put on my USB stick, so I don't lose anything. Copying entire appdata comes to mind, but maybe there is a better solution. Any recommendations?

If you want to be sure, copy the entire appdata and hope that you don't have games that still use the programm path for savefiles too.

A bit radical. I would say:

Copy the appdata folder to somewhere else, then remove the directories, at first level in both "Local", "LocalLow" and "Roaming", that you identify as absolutely not linked to a possible game; like by example "Microsoft". It should remove half the content and be more secure.

Today I was puzzled with as to where Eiyuu Senki games might have stored their savegames - not in the game folder, neither in appdata, I knew it wasn't in the registry ...

Turns out it was the only game ever on this computer that actually had used the "[username]/saved games" folder :D - and maybe I wasn't the only one wondering, as I found the info in the OP for the games here at f95zone.

so check that folder, too.
and maybe in your userlevel registry, I don't know how to know which games did/ still do that.
I think Illusion games stored much in the registry, maybe also saves.

AppData (Local, LocalLow, and Roaming can all have saves), My Games, and the folders your games are in are the biggest culprits for where games would be. Copying all of it is a bit excessive, but if you have space then it doesn't hurt to copy more than less and simply trim down removing things you don't need later and also only move saves over as you need them (if you don't feel like sorting through all the folders since there are a ton... I have a ~4 month fresh format and mine already has over 150 subfolders).

I'd definitely exercise caution with actually copying excess stuff over to the new computer since there's a lot of bloat in AppData that builds up over time.
