Kinda but not really new here. I like to develop games.

It's a tale as old as porn. I've been lurking for... oh god... over 6 years now?
So umm... Hi? I guess.

About me, yes, right... I'm a bit of a Ten-of-All-Trades, not quite a Jack yet if ya catch my drift. I'm prone to prose, a producer of pixelart, and, when the mood strikes me, a purveyor of precariously perverted productions. I'm an enjoyer of monstergirls and light femdom (I know, I know, save your praise for my originality) but find those categories to be in an abysmal state. Regardless of medium, I find most femdom and monstergirl content to feel... shallow. Absurdly so. There's no point to monstergirls if there's no monster in the girl y'know?

Anyways, that's a rant for another time. Point is, I've decided to take inspiration from my favorite creators, those being Ray-K (Freakishly Charming, you may know them from "Teaching Feeling") and Hakika (made the SEQUEL series) and try to make something myself. This isn't an official announcement of my game, that will come later, but I feel I should point it out in my introduction. For now, just know my profile pic is the main model I've made for it using a mash of pixelart and low poly modeling ala old school games from the PS2 era.

Well, that about covers the basics. Have a Zombie girl I whipped up as thanks for the fine people who actually read these intros and treat this community as a... well, a community.

Careful! She's very slowly comin to eat your... brains?

Why do so many would-be devs feel the need to denigrate those that came before them? It's completely unnecessary and is only going to earn you animosity.

Simple. When people want something that doesn't exist or have issues with what does exist they're often inspired to create something more fitting to their tastes.

I feel I should clarify what/who I'm referring to in my original post there though. Media is difficult to produce, you know this as well as any others and this results in most projects people actually care about making to fail before they make it far enough to realize their goals. Combine this with less popular categories (and thus less support) and the result is that most content in said niche becomes a cheaply produced cashgrab from companies that pump out soulless media to prey on the communities that lack better options. Thus, it's in an abysmal state.

I love indie games and those who put their lives into the creation of them, but they sadly are not the bulk of the medium and thus don't represent the issues with said medium. There are many like me inspired to create from the same drive, to make something they actually like in a category they feel is neglected, and I very much so appreciate their efforts.

Then just say that. Say "X wasn't quite what I wanted, so I decided to make my own." Not "I find most femdom and monstergirl content to feel... shallow." There's no reason to say that.

The bulk of the this particular medium is absolutely indies. I'm not sure why you think it's not.

Welcome, but there are already some games that have monstrous monster girls. However, they're more of a niche. Same as horror, people usually prefer to look at good looking women, crazy I know.

I'll try to keep this in mind for the future then.

You could mean several things by "this particular medium" by my count but I'm assuming (correct me if I'm wrong) you're referring to monstergirl porn games?

In which case, my statement still stands. While there's plenty of indie devs who have attempted to create monstergirl games, the vast majority of them have sadly closed their doors due to development issues, leaving the category full of abandoned projects. The ones that do make it far often either don't put emphasis on the "monsterous" side of monstergirls or are a 480p Japanese VN from the early 2000's. I chose the word "shallow" in my original comment but perhaps the word I was looking for is more akin to "lacking". There's exceptions to this of course but they're few and far between, having mostly been filled by just MonsterGirlQuest and MonsterGirlIsland until MonsterGirl Dreams came out (the godsend it was).

In fact, this is a common complaint as well as a common request, a request which, more often than not, goes unfulfilled due to a lack of decent options (outside of the few outliers).

It's a neglected category, a graveyard of unfinished projects, and one I hope to join and, hopefully, provide something of worth to someone. After all, if I'm to impart upon this niche, I don't feel I should be ignoring the issues and pitfalls within it. I, of course, welcome anyone else to make their own attempts but I won't lie and claim there's an imaginary wealth of content to be found here.

All's I'm saying (or trying to say) is that how you say something is as important as what you're saying. Especially when you get that fancy dev badge that is a target on your back for haters.

I wish you luck in your endeavors regardless.

mm! That's true, but I like my weirdos. I make exceptions for games that really treat the monstergirls as monsters, regardless of appearance though.

Please don't take this personally, but... you kinda inadvertently became my very first hater lol. I'm not bothered, mind you, I know you had good intentions. It's just a funny piece of irony.

Didn't mean for it to come across as hate, just non-sugar coated truths. But how we say things matters, so if you got "hate" from my words, I apologize. Not my intention. You are going to get far worse whenever your game comes out though, so I'd be prepared.

Then allow me a non-sugar coated truth in response.

You are an established dev who derailed the introduction of a newer dev with your opinions about how they should act and what opinions they are allowed to hold. You're publicly policing my actions based on your frustrations with the "so many would-be devs" you mentioned. It's not your job to tell new devs how to behave or what they should say so my advice to you would be to stop doing that, in your own words: "It's completely unnecessary and is only going to earn you animosity."

With that, hopefully we'll be all evened out in regards to unsocicited judgements towards one another.

To me it seems he's taken offense to your words, even though you said most games (not all) yet another piece of misunderstanding he takes personal. So there we have the anger and frustration coming out, from you saying that overall you feel the genre is in an abysmal state, not necessarily his work. Maybe you could have reworded it to not offend every one who reads this but its their choice if they choose to feel that way, over something that's a general viewpoint, with no details given. Hey maybe you just caught him on his period or maybe he's hormonal from the pregnancy? Who knows. Either way, sometimes it's pointless responding to people who are that sensitive and yet claim that you should be the one toughening up for that kind of backlash, when they respond so hurt over something that's not even directed at them lol.

You completely missed the point though.

This is a forum/community where you interact with other people, and developers (both here and on discord) have their little corner. If you start off with saying "I am making a monster girl game because most are shallow" it may feel as an unnecessary attack, being a little humble goes a long way.
Insomniac was just trying to point it out to be helpful, not really as a way to hate on him.

Anyway, to avoid going off-topic, let me extend my welcome by suggesting you to make a Development Thread if you haven't already here:
https://f95zone.to/forums/general-discussions.9/

This is a random example, but there are many there if you give a look:
https://f95zone.to/threads/aperture-ntr-game-developer-thread.254141/

Consider the Development thread as a sort of "Introduction" for your game, where you can already start to gain followers, feedback, etc. before you even hit your first release, I'd also suggest creating a discord server if you haven't already.

Good luck, and once again welcome on F95Zone!
Many new developers skip this step, but it's incredibly useful if you want more visibility on your first release.

To be frank, the fact that anything I've said on this thread is being construed as hate or frustration is completely nonsensical.
Why do so many would-be devs feel the need to denigrate those that came before them? It's completely unnecessary and is only going to earn you animosity.
Because your initial statement IS an expression of frustration. It's a VALID statement of frustration, but it resulted in welcoming a new dev with an argument and criticisms.

This is a fair, and valid point. Despite my complaints with the state of the category, this statement is true and I should have worded it better, as I admitted to already.

This is all good advice and despite the negativity of this thread so far, I want to sincerely express thanks for this. I'll look into these details as I feel more comfortable opening up about my project.
