Kinda but not really new here. I like to develop games.

Because your initial statement IS an expression of frustration. It's a VALID statement of frustration, but it resulted in welcoming a new dev with an argument and criticisms.
A result that shouldn't have happened, and I'm sorry that it did. My initial statement was more a "Come on, man. Not again." kind of maneuver, I should have made that clearer.

And I'll say it again. I wish you luck in your endeavors.

Thank you. I'll be more mindful of my complaints as well. I'm sure the devs who tried and burnt out or otherwise failed to realize their vision are plenty frustrated with the state of things as is, adding my own frustrations won't fix that so I'll try to focus on positive additions.

Now burn out we can have an actually constructive conversation with. I've found taking a few days after a release where I only do bug/typo fixes and take notes really does help. Those couple days just thinking about what I want to include in an update make development go much smoother and less "what do I do now?"

I get that. The way I've been handling it is by keeping a list of what needs to be done and jumping to something else if I get stuck. Writers block for one scene doesn't mean you have writers block for another y'know? This has worked thus far but that's likely only because I've limited my scope from the getgo and, of course, cus it's a new project. I'd imagine once I have something more cohesive and progress slows down I'll need to start transitioning into thinking about how releases encourage linear progress.

My real fear tbh is animating. I've started getting the hang of 3D modeling but 3D animation is totally new to me. Idk if your game has animation or not but your poses look natural. Do you use references? If so, how do you find them?

At first I used out of the box animations. But, nowadays I do nearly everything in Koikatsu's timeline. (Keyframe animation, basically). If I ever need references I just google something like "oral positions". You can find a ton of stuff that way.

Okay, this is gonna sound weird, but the thought of using porn as references to make more porn has somehow never occurred to me. I've been basing everything on things like anatomical references and using my understanding of that to try figuring out how the body bends and contorts in various positions. I think this is probably a relic of my college days but yeah... I should probably find more fitting references lmao.

I mean, there's not exactly a manual for this stuff so I'm sure you're not the only one. (I just winged it in the beginning) :ROFLMAO: But using porn helps with camera angles and such. Learning from the pros and all that.

Why do so many would-be devs feel the need to denigrate those that came before them? It's completely unnecessary and is only going to earn you animosity.

I want to have a friendly disagreement with you on being upset with potential devs like this. I've seen you make a couple other posts on these up-and-coming / prospective developer posts for saying similar things and Idk, I want to chime in and disagree. I don't really think it's denegrating at all.

I think the OP's statement "most of X(genre) of porn games are abysmally shallow" isn't exactly a controversial one and it wouldn't matter what genre you put in there.
-Consider how many games on here are generated with AI with pictures or scenes written/drawn by a computer.
-Consider how many games on here follow the same exact formula of gameplay as one another.
-Consider how many games on here are abandoned unfinished messes.
For every game that does something interesting, bold or has something to say, there are well over 3 that don't, and 3 more that burn away their potential in development hell.
With all this in mind, I feel like that's a VERY valid opinion to have and a reasonable thing to say.

And I don't think that's anything to take offense at here, especially for any devs actively and passionately making their own games. He's being critical of the common shortcomings of the genre/medium, not the genre/medium as a whole. And he's being critical of the genre because it's something he really likes, these statements are made out of passion to build something of his own, not to denigrate and step on everyone who came before.

Like, I'd 100% agree with you if someone showed up and made the claim that ALL eroge games suck and they are here to show us all how it's done. But the difference between saying "most" and "all" in statements like these is a pretty huge difference, at least that's what i think.

Otherwise ain't nothing wrong with a
detroit-lions.gif
kind of attitude. It's a huge motivator for many creators. Lots of us set out to make the game we want to play. To me, that's all these statements are really saying. I don't think it's an attack on everyone else.
I say we take it easy on the new people. They'll have their trial by fire when they release their game and get feedback.

That being said, I understand why you tell the new devs to curb their competetive attitudes and stuff, I do think you tend to read more spite into these new developer motivations than there are.

Back when I made my first devlog post on here, I remember I probably said something in a similar vein to OP, but it was really out of love for the genre, I want to make what i see as unfulfilled potential. I don't hate all the games that didn't live up to my standards, i love them, they are what motivated me to be here making games. Inspiring someone to attempt to make something better than you because they saw missed potential in what you did, is probably the furthest thing from denigrating as there could be. If someone does that for something i make on day, hell yeah.

A great example of this, Salvor deep just finished development and a whole team of fans has already banded together to make a game that's similar but with a focus on monster fucking because they thought the first game would have been better if that was a big feature. They asked him for permission and they're going full speed ahead.

Anyways, I hope this post doesn't feel condescending at all, I don't want to insult your intelligence or pick a fight, just wanted to share a different perspective. I just see these statements in a very different way because i feel like i used to be in the same spot as lots of these new developers. Anyways, that's my two cents, thanks for reading if you did.

To Verdance, good luck with development!

Salvor Deep is SUCH a cool game! I don't even care about the lewd, I just play it out of love for the concept as a whole and how it plays out. I'm a big fan of minimalist graphics like pixel art, low poly, etc and one day hope to more fully emulate PSX era graphics so seeing a game like that, which totally reworks the very concept of perspective and visuals is incredibly refreshing. I know it wasn't the first to do this style but fuck me if it didn't do that style justice.

As for that game inspired by it featuring monster fucking... Ya gotta give me more info man. You can't just casually drop such good news and walk away lmao.

I think the project is called Sunken Veil. I found it because someone on the team joined my discord server.

Looks like it doesn't have it's own thread on this site but it's being made by the user Num3rical and their discord is where they're posting updates (I won't link it here as idk if they want other's doing so but they have posted it publicly themselves).
