Lab Rats is a sandbox with a deadline management developed by Vren. A sequel is in the works as of today. As a university student you learn to use a serum to manipulate five girls you know to be more open minded. As the relationship points evolve, you unlock new interactions that were previously hidden, but still require you to do some deep dialog, search taking in consideration the time and date, and using the engine’s mechanic of sliding back your choices otherwise you will not progress at all. The models are simple with not much appeal, they don’t seem to be the main focus of the game, but the variety of actions to be found as the game progresses. Lab Rats is very focused on text, offering very little imagery but plenty of new dialog as a new tier is reached. The game also demands you to pay attention to the number of actions performed since it has a countdown to the end of the summer. An unnecessary element that only brings unease as you navigate throughout your home and the university. Overall the game is very short, almost claustrophobic, having not much to do or to view, offering very similar situations day after day. It’s not a bad game, but it does not shine beyond mediocrity. It strongly reminded me of the game Corruption, but that one offers significantly more content than Lab Rats.
