Overview:
Simple mod that allows to rename MC's surname at the start of the game. So to apply this you need to start anew.

Hi,
I installed the mod as directed, but there is no choice at the start of my NEW game to change the last name (surname)...I only get to change the first name (Mike). Then the game starts the story with MC still having his last name as Trent.

I had the same issue and I resolved it by going into the game/scripts folder and deleting all the files and then inserting the new files from the mod.

Thanks for the info.... But I'm now to far into the story, at the point of not wanting to restart again to change MC's last name. Thanks though.

Yup was my issue also.
Fixed that and added new unencrypted files to the mod, and added new download links.

I apologize for not including the source code *.RPY files into archive. Didn't even think about it when I was done editing and testing on my local copy of the game and packed up the wrong type of files by mistake. Thanks Twistty for the fix.

A new update is out hope you could look into this when you get a chance.
I did update the mod to 0.6a (Ep. 3) and it's out now. Checking if there are any bugs, but looks like it's okay this time.

The game's save files don't work. The saves were created with the mod in use. The game now wont except the same games.

same as above, got a old save from ep1 working but on some places it replaces last name whit "Captain [sname] " instead of "Captain Tent"
i use the original last name but different first name, first name works fine everywhere it look like

starting a new game, skipping to ep2 fix it, also tested to change the last name and skipped to ep2 and it works fine, so right now it a "easy" fix but the longer the game gets it might add problems

I did check on variables and they are the same. Try download the actual version of the game and this mod. Loading old save where there is no mod in use MAY and WILL cause some errors. This mod do not handle change of the first name so you don't need it if you want play as someone with surname Trent.
Well, nobody else said anything about catching errors. Also I advise that you unpack game into new folder. Do not overwrite the old version.

The name mod boluxes the 0.6b update, (released 05/19/24) since the ending is different, and the pictures it references are no longer part of the game.

If you don't want to wait for an update to the mod and you trust yourself with a PC, go into the games folder open the scripts folder, Find these four files Scripts to edit.png the icon next to them may look different than mine. Right click on one if it is dieffent and select open with then choose Wordpad this will allow you to edit it via Word pad in the future. Once in Wordpad you will want to click on this Click this for replacing text.png or click ctrl + H. Once you do that a popup will show up with 2 input fields, one for find and one for replace with. In find type in Trent, this is the default last name in the game make sure it is capitalized. In the replace with field type in the Last name you wish to use. Once you have done that you will see 4 buttons on the right side of the pop-up you will want to click replace all, this will replace every instance of Trent being mentioned with the last name you chose. Where text goes and where to click to replace all.png Now when you have completed that a pop-up will show telling you that it is finished so you just click ok. To save this you will want to click the purple save icon in the top right, for us older adults this will look like a floppy disk, for younger adults it will look like something your parents have in their tech storage area. click this to save.png I hope this helps people in the future. With this method you will need to do this to every new episodic script added, so this takes a bit of work on your part, If you don't trust yourself enough just wait for Powerack to update their mod.

Disclaimer
Also, do this at your own risk!!!! Before editing any script files for any game I recommend making a copy so you can fix it if you break something. This may work for other games that break down their scripts into episodes/chapters but again edit at your own risk. Or you could use the URM.

1. Just install the program.
2. Right click on the "Game" folder.
3. Type in "Trent" - and it automatically searches all files for that term "Trent" in the game folder.
4. Now just choose "Replace" and it replaces it with the name you choose, in all files.
5. No looking through files, no guess work.
That's it - your done!
