Summer In The City Will NOT Be Coming To Steam​

Hi everyone,

well, it's official. Summer In The City has been rejected by Steam and the store page has been removed, six days before launch, ten months after the store page went up, gathering 4000 wishlists. There were absolutely no indications beforehand that this would happen, despite being in contact with Steamworks' support team prior to this unfortunate decision. I am devastated, angry and in utter shock. This is one of these classic "worst case scenarios" people refer to.

Summer In The City's development will not end. But this new situation certainly makes it much, much harder to get by. I am now forced to check every avenue available to me, from seeking other storefronts to looking for a part-time job to keep me above water. I am eternally grateful for all of my and Summer's generous and amazing supporters. Without you, this project would be dead in the waters by now after having also lost roughly 40% of my monthly income due to the horrendous delisting situation on itch. Crazy times we live in.

It's a bad day, not gonna lie. A very bad one. But our Pumpkin will prevail!

I may have to postpone the release of version 1.0 for a few days, I'm not sure yet. It's basically finished but there are still a few things left to do over the next week. I will share my decision this upcoming Monday, August 25th. There are quite a few other things I also have to take care of now, which haven't been part of my schedule before the rejection. I apologize in advance should a delay become inevitable. Won't be long though.

Members who follow me for a while now know that I really, really don't like asking for financial support for myself. I want people to make contributions on their own terms by deeming my project worthy. But this is an out-of-the-ordinary situation, so I will swallow my pride today and ask you for your support for the time being. I'm well aware of the fact that times are tough for many people right now, so I don't expect much from it and totally understand. But if you can afford a buck or two without having to worry about an empty fridge at the end of the month, I'd appreciate it big time.

To be fair, this is the first time I've made a large project with a male protagonist. I do prefer female and futa personally. Futa can be fairly easily swapped to male. So the design goal is to include all of them equally. I suppose futa will likely get the most attention due to being able to be on the giving or receiving end. (Male+Male is unlikely unless highly requested.)

Scenes and dialog rendered in POV makes having all of these genders a lot less of a problem. We'll see how it goes I suppose. There are a few moments where the MC is seen in 3rd person, but the main focus is indeed POV.

Label the female body with male genitals what ever you like. I simply refer to them as futa in my games. I'm not interested in arguing over labels. I just want to make porn.

Suggestions are welcome! Report any bugs you find!

Edit: Oh, and yes, you can follow the main quest and ignore everything else if you really want. That made possible in part thanks to itchio's new rules. There's actually a SFW version of this game on there. Crazy how things have changed, but I'll not get into that.

Also, i don't know if some posts were removed by moderation or yourself, but you had quite the colourful language in those too. Weird takes, I like Lesbian Game with straight route and a balance 50/50 male/female ratio more because it means that game allow me a real choice like real life to choose male or female. Honestly if a Lesbian Game just throw at me "Here is a Pretty Girl, Woo her!" It makes it feels I dunno, Too Easy. I like pretty girl with long soft flowing hair but if the game just shove it at me it feels unrealistic. So honestly I always avoid those type of games UNLESS the Heroines actually fun or the game itself isn't just "Please Read and look at pretty art.". I want games that are real game, if I just want writing, I can make an extremely convoluted character backstory of my own that can fill 5 page of google doc and slap to an AI and say "Roleplay as this person".

Of course if the "Dick" appears out of nowhere, I would instantly throw it away and move on. It is like if you tell a random person on the street "Hey wanna look at sexy girl" then you slip that person a book but inside the book it is actually a gore porn that make Khorne blush. Or maybe thats just me who have a Dickphobia, and no I'm not being sexist, I just hate dick. If you tell me you are a guy online and I see no dick it is cool, because I can gaslight myself into imagining you to look like your profile picture, not a guy. But hey on the bright side at least I know my line of thought are abnormal and I try my best to live a normal life.

Games where lesbian relationships aren't treated as second table dishes are very rare. I think i can count them with the fingers of my hands, and I'm sure I'd even have fingers left over.

Personally, these aren't things I would look for if I had plenty of lesbian games to choose from. I don't see why it would be more realistic to have to play with a bi protagonist.

My ideal would be games with multiple female love interests and routes to choose from, such as Love & Sex, where the male protagonist has multiple love interests, each with their own ending, with multiple different harems, routes where you screw up, something like that would be the dream.

More or less, actual roommates is one of the gems we've had, But it's still a visual novel; it doesn't have gameplay, so to speak, just decision-making, They are very different games, since Roommates is dedicated to telling a story, while Love & Sex is a simulator. There is no story as such; it simply gives you the freedom to do whatever you want.

Love&Sex also has too much content, and thanks to the freedom of not following a story as such, you can make many combinations. As I said, it has multiple harems due to its large number of characters.

Harems with your roommates, another with your coworkers, another with a rock band, and the dev also takes advantage of that freedom to make unexpected combinations that work out pretty well, like a yandere with a sporty girl, or a Christian girl with another one who had a messed-up life, police with a criminal, etc.

I think I should have also said that my ideal would not be a visual novel, Personally, visual novels are not my preference. For me, it's one of those cases where I play them because there's no other choice, I love many of them as roomates, but they are games that can be finished in an afternoon.
